I just recieved a picture today of my old self before I decided to take the weight off. I almost fainted. It just made my drive stronger to keep on trying to lose weight. So you hang in there.

----Thanx for the good word, Cinaberry. I'm getting stronger every day, even tho I can't do much exercise yet. My Lung doc wants me to take it easy & get my oxygen back. So does my surgeon. so no exercise, and I can't say that breaks my heart. I know I'm going to have to do it sometime, but I'll hold my peace until that time comes.

----Shirley, I'm practically a neighbor of yours. I live in Warren. So, yeah, let's chat sometimes.

----All--Have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year.

Fellow Michigander here! I was banded 11/7/07 by Doc Bacal in Dearborn. I live in Belleville, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. I am very pleased with my progress thus far! I got my first fill yesterday; 1.25 cc. Hopefuly I'll feel it!

Has anybody been to Dr. Slikkers in Traverse City? That is who I go to and I am very happy so far.

Glad to see some activity on the Michigan site. My last weigh in is in January and then Angie @ T.C. Surgery (Dr. Nizzi) will turn in my paperwork to BC/BS of Illinois. Not sure how long the insurance people will take - I hope not long. It seems I've been doing this forever and ever. Not sure of the exact steps after getting the OK from the insurance (I hope an OK) but I'm getting impatient! Late February to mid March would be the best time to get the surgery done.

I live in Grayling and manage a 65 room hotel and a Bed and Breakfast on the AuSable River. Losing some weight will help me keep up with my jobs and my family!

Take care.

I had my surgery on Dec. 7th with Dr. Slikkers. I don't get a fill until Jan. 24th so I've only lost 13# total. Right now I feel like there's no restriction.

Where do you get your fills done at? I live in Ann Arbor and am looking for a doctor that does in office fills. Thanks.

Opal

Try Barix Clinic in Ypsi. They take outside patients but when I called back in Oct., they weren't taking new patients since Dr. Kam was leaving. They told me to call again in a couple months to see if they had found a doctor to take his place.

I get my fills done by Dr. March in Hillsdale. His phone # is 517-437-5350. They charge $110.00 per fill but they charge my insurance and surprise, they pay all but 20.98.

Port Huron also does fills for outside patients and so does one of the bariatric clinics in Flint. (they are really expensive, somewhere about $300.oo) There might be doctors in the Detroit area that will do fills for outside patients. I didn't check into any of them since I could go to Hillsdale, or Kazoo in the same time frame. (without the hustle and bustle of the city)

GOOD LUCK

Kari

P.S. I think I started a thread here in the Michigan thread and also in the fill doctor listing the doctors I found who would do fills in Michigan and the cost of them. I had made over 30 different calls to bariatric doctors who were with in a 100 mile radius of Livingston County.

My son - in - law's name is Tony and he is proabably in your age range. I know he is a couple years older than my daughter and she is going to be 32. He has a brother Mike and another one Thane. They're both older than him though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
