Where are all the Michigan people at??

I agree with you on the dumping and damage. I've seen too many failures with the RNY. Will you do the fills at Hurley also?

Do they also have a support group that you go to? If you ever need a passenger let me know. We could meet somewhere along 94.

I should let you know something about me. I'm Female, 50, married , and have a 30 year old daughter that lives in Chicago. I'm around 40 BMI and I need to lose this weight because I have bad knees.

They have a support group but I live in Jackson, so going to group there doesn't make sense. I want to find one in Ann Arbor, or Lansing or something. I don't want to go here! :Banane56:

I will probly stay with them for fills as well. It makes sense I like them!

meAlicia - Thanks! I didn't know about the meetings in Eaton Rapids. I live in Eaton Rapids so that will be really convenient for me.

I'm in Lansing. I'm having my surgery in 4 days at Port Huron. I'm having a hard time losing any weight preop. Was this a problem with port huron for anybody that went there?

Hi everyone, I'm from Michigan too! I am going to a seminar with Dr. Doel this Tuesday.

Question for you all: How many docs did you interview/visit with before deciding?

You guys have one of the best surgeons doing the process. To answer a question I saw 5 doctors 3 who only did Ruen Y one in Port Huron and Dr Deol. Once you meet with her and Rebecca I guarantee (if you are serious about having this done) you will not want to go anywhere else. I was banded on July 31 by her at Troy Beaumont. Let me just tell you Beaumont is the best place to recover. They have new rooms on the 4th floor that are private, nurses that really care, and the surgery wasn't as painful as I thought.

Let me give you fair warning however. If you are not 100% committed to doing this they will not let you get by. Dr Deol prepares you more than any other doctor could. They have avery strict process in place that you must follow and meet.

I have to say, if this is the surgery for you by all means she is the best around!! I am 28 and I wanted the Lapband rather than the ruen Y. She put me through every ringer possible and I am glad she did. Now its 5 days post op and I have barely any pain, I am moiving around with no problems, and I feel fantastic (for not being able to chew any food lol)

Congrats and I hope everything goes well for both of you at the meeting. Ask question after question, know everything you possibly can and see and talk with as many people as you can. It will make the process that much easier!!:clap2:

So I was banded on Thursday morning at 8:30am. I'm feeling pretty good. I got my band and was in recovery an hour or so, then I got sent up to my room where I walked to my bed from the door. After napping for a while I got up and walked a few laps. Napped some more. Walked a bunch. The worst part was the gas pain. I could feel it in my chest really tight so they did an ekg and blood work and all was fine. I walked a whole lot and on a scale of 0 to 10 with pain being excruciating at 10 I think the highest I ever got was a 4 and that was right after surgery. I spent the night there and then on the next morning I had to go down to radiology and swallow the worst tasting stuff on the planet. All went through just fine so then I got back to my room and got a yummy popcicle. After that went down ok then I got a lunch tray with more popcicles, skim milk, broth (ick), and Jello. I ate a cube of the jello and drank about half the milk, which took over an hour to do. I wasn't hungry at all. THe doctor came in to check my incisions and said "eat a little more, then you can go home" AHHH! hahaha. So I ate another cube and drank more skim milk. I left at 2pm. I've been doing really well. Took a long walk with hubby last night. The worst part has been these gas pains. I can hardly wait till they are gone! Otherwise I feel really good and I still havn't been too hungry. sipping my yogurt and milk and lots of Water.

If anybody has any questions, feel free to ask!

I'm so glad I'm finally to this point!

:clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
