Im aready worring about the pain after surgery. On a scale from 1-10 where does it rate???I rate child birth a 8 but I had my totally natural!

I had my gallbladder out last summer and that was about a 4!

Alot of people compare this surgery to the pain with gallbladder is this about right????????:biggrin1:

I'd say the first hours after surgery were the worst, maybe around a 5 but then after 1 full day and night 2 on Pain meds there were down to a 3. By Full day #2 tylenol was enough to ease the aches no real pain then

Dont worry too much about it, you'll get yourself too worked up.

Well I think I kind of offended a week or two back by saying this op was a cinch, but I'd rate childbirth (natural) about a 7, a caesarean about a 9 and lap band surgery about a 4. For ME it was really really easy and I had very little pain. I came home the next day and never took any pain relief at all.

I've had a baby, knee surgery AND gallbladder surgery. Lapband surgery was by far the easiest surgery I've ever had. I'd give it a 3 on the pain scale & the worst was really the few hours after surgery. I never had to take any pain pills. I could have been back to work the next day. :)

I rate it about a 3. I did the first child natural, and the pain was totally less than the epidural I got the second time. If...and there better not be...there is a third time, I'll do it natural again...so much easier than the epidural. The only time I was really uncomfortable was immediatly after surgery when I woke up in recovery. My bed was broke and they had some guy trying to fix it. His way of fixing it apparently involved a LOT of shaking of my bed. The bed couldn't be fixed so I was switched bed within 30 minutes of surgery. I would imagine the pain would be VERY similiar to a gall bladder surgery.

I have NO tolerance for pain, yet didn't have to take pain meds after banding surgery. My two childbirth experiences were WAY more painful, even WITH epidurals.

Banding surgery leaves you sore and tired, and the resolving gas can mean shooting stabbing pains for a while afterwards, but it was no more than a 3 on the scale for me.

My surgery was easy,,, the fear factor was up but after 4 children, umbilical hernia repair and ankle surgery this was a walk in the park!

The key I think is to do exactly as you are told.... I took the pain meds and I did not lift anything over 10lbs. After 2days I had lost 8lbs which helped too! Keep doing the liquids, get your Protein in and you will be fine. My hardest strugle was being tired, my doc attributed it to the anesthesia. I had gotten a plastic breathing thing... (you blow into the tube and keep the level up at a steady rate to exercise your lungs) and kept using that for about a month. It helped with the sleepy feeling I had.

Keep in mind that you are going to feel better than you did before the surgery!:clap2:

I have absolutely no tolerance for pain, either. I have had 2 c-sections and the c-sections were by far the worst. In fact the pain from scar hung around for nearly 6 months, not to mention the level of pain the first 2 wks after the birth. My only problem with the lap band was the gas. HOwever, I'd pop a gas-x for immediate relief.

I was so excited and pumped up for the surgery that I had no anxiety beforehand and the pain afterward was probably a 2 if that. My incisions just did not hurt. I came home and slept good all night and relaxed and slept most of the next day. Talk about taking adavantage of lounging around! Don't put your effort in worrying about the pain, put your adrenaline to work be excited about the future and what it holds!!!!

I had a lot of pain at my port site for about 10 days. Walking and moving in certain ways caused it to hurt. I am very short waisted and my port is close to my waist. Perhaps that is why it hurt so much. I took pain meds for about 4 days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
