My husband has his surgery 4/1/11 in Tijuana at Hospital Angeles the surgeon was Dr Lopez-Corvala and my surgery was done 8/19/11 same hospital and same surgeon. I had my lap band done at the same time with my gallbladder.

Best decisition ever, he is down 98lbs and I'm down almost 50lbs. The hospital was super clean, and the nurses, surgeon, anesthesiologist were very knowledgebles and professionals.

My surgery was also done in Tijuana. Different doctor, but located out of Hospital Angeles . The actual surgery took place at a new facility.

I'm concerned with follow up. Are you located close enough to follow up with the same doctor or did you find a doctor in the states for your follow up?

We live in Las Vegas, but we still go back for follow ups to the same surgeon in Tijuana. We prefer it that way because we get our fills done under fluoroscopy. My husband has had only 3 fills and he has a pretty good restriction, and I only have to fills and I don't think I need another one any time soon.

There are many here at LBT who have been banded in Mexico. Many of the surgeons there have prearranged after care facilities in the US and Canada.

I'd be certain to have aftercare set up, though. There are doctors who will not treat patients who were banded elsewhere. I'd want all my ducks in a row before proceeding. Being banded and not having aftercare would be a waste. Like a sports car without gas.

I had my surgery in Mexico with Dr Kuri. The experience was very positive and the facilities were top of the art. I live close enough to have my aftercare in Mexico but I also have an option to go to a doctor near my home. He has an agreement with Dr. Kuri to treat his patients.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
