So I had black bean Soup for lunch, homemade. I probably ate too much, thinking it was like regular Soup and forgetting how dense it was. Anyway, now my band hurts..or my esophagus hurts..or something. It feels like it's too tight and i need to burp, but nothing comes up when I do, basically it hurts where I burp. Drinking hot coffee now, which seems to be helping, but this sucks and it's kind of giving me a headache. Anybody know what this is? Banded 3 months, no stucks, no vomiting, no fill yet..

thanks!

If something is stuck, you definitly don't want to be drinking anything. Sometimes it would take a couple of hours before I felt better when something was feeling stuck but wouldn't come up.

Holly Dolly has it right, if something is indeed stuck, time (or sometimes only throwing it up) will cure it. It will pass but I would switch back to thin liquids for a day or so in case you irritated your pouch. Sometimes, when I get stuck, I find that putting my arms over my head brings some relief. I have no idea why, but it works for me.

If I have a slight stuck "which sounds like you have" I drink warm Water, or Tea, and it helps relax the muscles, and it goes threw. If it's more severe of a stuck, it will come up. Either way make sure when this passes, that you drink Water or coffee, "but nothing cold !" until you can burp. Then stay on liquids a day or 2.

Also sometimes if it's not moving I will continue to drink something warm, untuil it pushes it threw "not to comfterable." or it will flash up. If your at these cross roads make sure your in the bathroom for this one.

Good Luck, Shirley.

chewable papaya enzyme, or a few sips of pineapple juice can also help begin the digestive process, and help you get "unstuck"...or so i've heard, not banded yet, but looking forward to my surgery date Jan30!

Yeah pineapple is a good one, also a bit of meat tenderizer in warm Water helps too. My guess with the black bean Soup is that you probably had a bean skin slightly cover the opening causing the discomfort but allowing you to still get liquids through.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
