Oh Boy...banded Nov 2008

Recommended Posts

My pouch and esophogus are dilated. The doc immediately took out all my fill. Before, no matter how much of a fill, I could not eat any bread, no matter what. Now I can eat ANYTHING. I need to have another barium swallow and then the doc said if it fixed itself (90% do...but 1/2 recur...) we'd be re-filling VERY SLOWLY...I'm up 10 pounds since my unfill in December and am worried it won't correct itself (or hasn't). I get alot of gas in my stomach whenever I eat and severe left shoulder pain--no matter how much I eat.

I've decided to start investigating revisions...Anyone else with the same issues?

Hello

I am having the same issue..I was banded May 2008, but I decided t have an endoscopy just to have peace ofmind since i was throwing up contantly....during the procedure the dr found out that the band was a little bit slipped, and decided to take all Fluid out (Jan 6), then I went for a Barium last Thursday and waiting to see him next Thursday Feb 2 to fill again if I am ok.

I was wondering what is going to happen if I am not ok?

As you I have been able to eat everything and I see it like a Band-vacation as I never had it before, so it has been nice to be able toe at steaks and pizza and coke....

Let me know what is going on with you and what is your next step...

Best wishes

Vicky

I had an endoscopy a year ago and my esophagus was a little dilated then so I had a little fill removed. But...I think it just got worse and my pouch dilated too. My surgeon didn't think it was a slip...just the placement was off due to the pouch dilation. Who knows...??? Now, I'm just waiting to see how my upper GI goes on Wednesday (all my fill was taken out the first week of December and he told me to wait 6-8 weeks). I think if it hasn't resolved itself that there'll be some type of revision surgery (a fix or a new procedure). Even if it is fixed, it'll likely happen again and he already told me I'd be very slow refilling because of it. I have been "dieting" all January (first counting calories, now counting carbs) and I seem to be still gaining. It's worse after you've been banded trying to keep control. I am scared to death to be without my band (even though it's not quite working right now). I'm considering revising to a sleeve. My insurance seems to cover revisions due to dilations, slippage, etc. I'll keep you posted after my appointment on Wednesday.

Keep me posted on you as well!

Crystal

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
