feliciadawn 22 Posted January 23, 2012 I just bought a juicer and have tried a couple different varieties. Just wondering if anyone has any tasty, healthy juice recipes and if anyone has any advice. I'm a little worried about consuming too many calories with the fruit juices. Haven't tried veggie juices yet. I figured after I get a fill (haven't had one yet) it might be harder to get down certain fruit skins and raw veggies, so I thought this would help me get more nutrition. Any advice would be great! Regnu 9 Posted January 23, 2012 My husband and I also juice. Most of the juice is made up of veggies, carrots, cucumbers, celery, some type of greens such as kale or chard and then one or two kind of fruit. Kiwi, apple, mango, orange (take off the peel), lemon, strawberries, watermelon, some ginger and beet is also good, but only use like a quarter of a beet not the whole thing. We put in whatever we have available and drink one glass a day. Using mostly veggies keeps the calories down and a couple of fruits makes it a little sweeter. I consider it a snack. You just have to experiment with different foods.
jayeedee 7 Posted January 23, 2012 My favorite juice combination is apple/beet/ginger! You can add spinach to it if you want, but that is the base. Apple/Green Veggie/Lime is also a yummy take on lemonade. Carrots are also a good base and go well with lots of things. If you like something savory, celery is a good base (also good to help with Water retention) Have fun & Happy Juicing!
GLove 44 Posted January 23, 2012 If you havent already seen the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, make an effort to. It's streaming free on NetFlix. It's a great weight loss story of 2 men thru juicing. There is also a Facebook page under the same name where you will get a wealth of information and recipes. Good on you for juicing as a meal or snack! 1 readytogoforit reacted to this

readytogoforit 172 Posted January 23, 2012 I just bought one too. I have always known juicing was a great idea but I was nervous about the cost of the juicer. afraid I wouldn't really stick with the program. I bought a juiceman on sale @ Target, easy to clean. a friend of mine just found out that she had lesions in her stomach(from ulcers). her acupuncture tech told her to drink cabbage to heal it. well, I have had an ulcer for a long time, used meds and tried to stay away from caffeine(mostly unsuccessfully) to help it to no avail. hopefully this will be another lifesaver for me.. my mother died of colon cancer. SOOOO obviously juicing is something I really need to do. I have been juicing veggies only thus far. I added ginger for the 1st time today. I bought a granny smith apple to add sometime soon. tastes so good! there is tons of info online and the library has many books to check out b4 buying. I am really happy this subject has come into the converstion!! thanks for the "recipes"
readytogoforit 172 Posted January 23, 2012 wow, what a great video!! thanks for the link, I have passed it on! that was the most heartwarming story ever. I couldn't be happier for the guy from Iowa, he was reborn!
feliciadawn 22 Posted January 24, 2012 Thanks, you guys! My juicer (got it on Amazon reduced to only $30 bucks!) It works awesome, it's a black and decker. It only takes small amounts of fruits/veggies at a time and you do have to cut them fairly small, but that's the only downside. Clean up is easy as long as I rinse everything out right after using it, I don't really even need to use much soap, just rinse with hot Water.< /p>
readytogoforit 172 Posted January 27, 2012 how do you track the calories and carbs. I am drinking cabbage for stomach lesions. I occasionally add a half granny smith to sweetened a little. I have been logging in fitness pal with 4oz. cabbage, another entry of 4 oz apple. think that is the right way to do it? I want to be sure a count these but don't want extra carbs I haven't really had them!

I want to be sure a count these but don't want extra carbs I haven't really had them! This made me curious about the calories in cabbage juice... I found a link that gives you a guide on the right hand side of the page. http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/nutrition-calories/food/generic/cabbage-juice/ According to this sheet, there is 25 calories in 100g of cabbage juice. There is roughly 113g in 4 Fluid ounces, so you are looking at 28.25 calories for 4oz of juice. I found apple juice info at: http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-apple-juice-i9400?size_grams=31.0 Your looking at roughly 60 calories there for a 4oz serving.
