Unfills

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had this problem?

I was banded in July 2011 and had a few fills in the following months after surgery. Two weeks fter my third fill I started feeling really tight, couldnt get food down so I went for an unfill amd felt better. Two weeks later I was too tight again and got another unfill. I got a fill on Jan 10 and again I'm feeling tight. I have 4ccs in a 10 cc band, and I dont know why I am getting tight two weeks after a fill. Any thoughts?

sometimes it can take up to 2 weeks for you to feel the effects of a fill. it took me 2 weeks to feel the effect of my fill in December, and my nurse was hesitant of doing it cause i am almost maxed out on my fills. i went in last week for my reg checkup and i told her how uncomfortable i was and she took out 0.4 cc and i was amazed at how much better i feel. i still have restriction, but not tight where i am uncomfortable. the weather changes affect some people too. i know when it is really cold or that time of the month, i get tight.

First if you cant get food down go back to liquids. If you can get all your liquids and Protein in liquid form dont rush to an unfill. Yes, the effects of fills sometimes show up late and no one knows why. My point is I am guessing you are obese since we all are or were at the beginning...sooooo, yes you need Fluid and protein to live but you really dont need solid food. It will loosen up as you lose weight. The tightness does change quite a bit depending on body fluid related to time of day, an illness, menstrual issues etc...

Always make sure you're getting LOTS of water...like 60+ oz's every day. That will cause your band to be really tight if you don't. And like the other poster said...go back to liquids for a few days. I'd use an unfill as an absolute last resort but definately keep in touch with your dr. If you can't keep liquids down then definately get a small unfill.

i had to have an unfill because i was uncomfortable drinking water

now i feel great but no restriction

going back in a week and a 1/2 and they may put less in then the fill i first had

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
