jayeedee 7 Posted January 23, 2012 I am thinking of singing up for a 5k on my 30th Birthday, March 24th. I am debating if I have enough time to prepare. I can walk it right now... I'd like to be able to do more than walk though. Any suggestions for training outside of c25k? As soon as I get the okay from my doc I'll start resistance training again, and my stationary bike... and then some jogging/power walking would be good too. I think I can be in okay enough shape by my birthday to do it. Anyone else doing fitness/exercise planning? If so, what do you have planned? 1 horsegirl315 reacted to this
mags2u 57 Posted January 24, 2012 Oh my goodness Jayeedee! I commend you. Anytime I see someone running, I think, "oh their car must be broken" or "what did they steal". Anytime I tried running I would get a concussion from my butt hitting the back of my head! HAHA. Eventually I would love to be "one of THOSE people", but for now I bought the Wii Just Dance 3 and I do Zumba on Tues. and Thurs. Good for you! Thats exciting. I think we can do anything we put our minds to! 1 horsegirl315 reacted to this
CMD1480 1 Posted January 26, 2012 I went today for my two week check up and my doctor said I am ok to start walking and running. I am also going to do a 5k, but I want my first one to be in May. We have a annual Shrimp Fest in my town and I thought that would be a good first one. I am just going to follow the C25K plan. Everyone I know that has done that one says it is perfect way to train. horsegirl315 114 Posted January 28, 2012 I used to run, 3 miles 3 times a week. I even ran a few 5k's. I have to say, if you stick with it, your body picks it up in no time. I could see and feel improvement from week to week, I really enjoyed it! For me, I can't run without good tunes though!
Lovlee Banded 2 Posted February 7, 2012 Wow it sounds like some of us want to do "K's". I was thinking once my doctor tells me I can exercise I'll be slowly startting to train for an 10 or 15K myself I was thinking training was like a year so I would do one for my 40th next Feb. But if I could do a small one like a 5k this summer I'd be so sprung!!! (ok I'm showing my age) I go to the doctor tomorrow so we will see
jayeedee 7 Posted February 18, 2012 I won't be able to do the 5k by my birthday. I still have port pain if I exercise for an extended period of time. Top that off with a twisted ankle and an injured wrist, plus two trips, one this coming week and one the first week of March, and it looks like an impossibility. On the plus side, I have been doing exercise spurts, walking around as much as possible (though today my ankle is yelling at me), and resitance training. I was so happy to get the approval from my doc on the resistance training. I enjoy it so much more than cardio I should be using my recumbant bike more than I am. I am nervous about how my ankle will react though. I hope everyone else is doing well!
Iryshgreene 2 Posted February 21, 2012 One of my colleagues wants me to sign up for the San Francisco marathon this summer. I told him he was INSANE! I doubt that I could even walk a marathon length, let alone in SF, where its anything but flat. A 5k sounds like a nice compromise!
