I'm nervous, excited, then calm I will be getting my lapband surgery done this Tues. I have read up all I think I can handle, have talked to several people some with gastric bypass some with lapband. Some with good results, some not soo good. I was supposed to get it right before Christmas but I chickened out and here I am again.

I have to think positively about this, its better for me and those around me. Any suggestions for a newbie?

I was just banded a little over two weeks ago, so I remember the roller coaster of emotions you're feeling right now well. My best advice?

Breath ;)

Honestly though, it's normal to feel all that. I know I bounced between excitement and "oh my gosh, what am I doing?" more and more the closer my surgery date came. When I was waiting in the pre-surgical room, all hooked up to IV's, in my gown, and waiting to be wheeled away, I remember thinking "oh crap I can't do this, I gotta cancel, crap!"

Thankfully, I stuck to my guns and went through with it. I am SO glad I did, too. I've already lost about 35 pounds just from the pre-op diet and these two weeks of being banded.

Keep reminding yourself of all the reasons you scheduled this surgery to begin with. Try to picture yourself a year from now, tons thinner and a lot healthier. Think of how much better you'll both feel and look.

And remember, Lap-Band is 100% reversible. So, even in the absolute worst case scenario, it can be removed if necessary and you'll be back to normal. Gastric Bypass- not the case. It can't be undone.

Hang in there and be sure to let us know how it goes! You'll do great! teeth_smile.gif

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
