Just Getting Started (Again)

Recommended Posts

Well, well, well Here I go on my journey to success. I've first started my journey May 2011 with my seminar I was doing all I needed to controlling my diet cutting out/down on sodas, sweets and fried foods. As part of my insurance and surgeons requirements I have to have 6 months of doctors visit's to track my progress. Well I just had no more appointment but I got cold feet and didn't keep my appointment. I got scared people always have something to say about what you should and shouldn't do! After longer talks with my husband and cousin (gastric bypass success story) and they both let me know that It was my life and my choice to do what I feels is best for me and my family. I know this is not a quick fix and I know this will not be an easy journey. Has anyone else have the same issues as I???? I am now getting so excited about my journey! Best Wishes To All!!!!!!!

Hey MalindaM....Welcome back to your Journey...i too have started the Journey two other times before this one. I don't regret backing out the other two times. Obviously, i wasn't ready at the time, and neither were you. I finally re-did my seminar in May 2011, being my 6 month pre-op supervision in Junme 2011, finished all my testings, and got my final insurance approval in early January...In 15 days, i will be banded. I am so excited. I am also excited for you as well. Good Luck and congrats!!! Stick with it! Remember we are doing this for a healthier us... <3

Hi Malinda, when you are ready for anything you will feel it inside. I too have a family member with gastric bypass and I have to remind myself I will not lose the weight that fast and dramatic but we are all individuals and our bodies know what they need. I congratulate youon taking back your life. I am very candid about my journey in my blog. We are all friends here. Fight what you can and God will be your guide... (And your Doctors too of course) Good Luck to you and stay excited about YOU!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
