Center Of Excellence No Longer At Port Huron Hospital, Michigan

Recommended Posts

Dr. Zubin Besanhia as moved to St. Joe's Mercy Hospital in Port Huron. He is no longer doing surgeries with Port Huron Hospital and thier LapBand Center. They will refer you elsewhere. They are advertising that they have done over 3,000 lapbands and that is untrue.... it's Dr. Besanhia who has and Dr. Bout. Sounds like a lot of political stuff and I don't like it. I wanted to set it straight.....If you want Dr. B's, you can call either of two numbers:810-985-1352 or 810-987-3556.

I just had my surgery done by Dr, Bhesania on Jan. 6. The nurses in the hospital knew this was coming and told me not to schedule my follow-up at the PH hospital. They suggested I call his office directly. (they whispered when they told me, btw) A few days after I got home, I called Mercy and am having my follow-up and first fill there.

You are totally correct- Port Huron Hospital hasn't done a thing, Dr.s Behsania and Boutt have. What they won't advertise is this- almost all of the Lap-Band center staff has followed over to Mercy.

Absolutely! I just left Dr. Bhesania's office this am. (He is seeing us at his Huron Surgical office 1522 Pine Grove, Suite C.) Get the word out, I for one did not choose PHH for the facility, but for the Surgeon! You are right, it sounds political to me, too. Can't wait to see the new office @ Mercy! I heard it is beautiful!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
