I was just wondering does anyone else get nightly heart burn? My doctor said that this isnt normal, and we are going to keep an eye on it, but I don't feel like I have any other problems besides this. The heart burn is the only problem that I have, but it is bad enough that I have to take tums or pepto almost every night, and sometimes it doesn't even help. Just wondering, does anyone else have constant heartburn like this? Could it be a slip even though I dont have any other symptoms? That is what my doctor was concerned about. Thanks for any comments!

I think your Dr should be checking to see if the band is too tight. If it is, and is left that way for too long, it could cause a slip.

I had terrible heart burn for the first several weeks post-op, mainly due to all the swelling. When I laid down to go to sleep it would get so bad I would have to get up and go to the lazy boy to sleep. I think your band is to tight and you need to have some of the Fluid removed before you do permeant damage.

I thought about the fact of maybe being too tight, but I can eat normally during the day, and I get hungry (like I did before my fill) so I didn't think that I would be too tight considering how I feel during the day. Awhile back, I was too tight and was choking and regurgitating at night, but then got a slight unfill and that all went away. the only problem is the heart burn still. My doctor said a possible slip, but I understand what you are saying about being too tight still.

I too have a similar problem. My heartburn seems to come on around 2 am. Doesn't happen all the time but it's annoying and sometimes I just get up, have a drink of Water and sleep on the couch. I've only had one fill and so far I feel no restriction and can eat as I did prior to surgery.

I had heart burn too at bed time and discussed it with my doctor. He asked me if I was eating within two hours before bedtime. I was indeed eating before bedtime. Once I stopped eating before bedtime, my heart burn completely went away.

He also mentioned that if I was coughing it could be an indication that the band was too tight. Are you coughing as well?

You might try to raise the head of your bed. My husband did mine because I WAS HAVING A LOT OF COUGHING. IT STOPPED AFTER THAT.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
