Made The Decision, Now I Have To Make Moves...

Recommended Posts

I've decided after living only a life of diets that do nothing but plateau that I need help to get where I need to be. I haven't made any appointments yet but I have made up my mind on getting banded. My insurance provider is Blue Cross Blue Shield ***, has anyone else gotten a band with this provider? if so what were their requirements? I am just curious to see what I have to look forward to! I have a seminar meeting coming up and I want to be a little more prepared. I am also calling my PCP for an overall physical and referral just to be ready.

Thanks!

amberj- i have bcbs in wash state. i went to my 1st seminar sept 7th, and started the paperwork. they approved me 100% in nov, and i just got banded dec 13th. they required a psych visit. a nutritionish visit, a note from my dr stating why she thought i would be a good canidate. she knew of my struggles with my weight and my family history. i also had to have weight watchers fax my year long history with them. bcbs approved me within 3 weeks- god bless them ! im down 14 lbs and it has all been VERY easy. good luck to you !!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
