Mega Shake

Recommended Posts

So I'm on my 2 week pre op, decided not to use my moms fried chicken as 3 ounces of meat. Went with a super high Protein shake.

1 container of plain chobani greek yogurt

1 Atkins advantage vanilla Protein Shake

1 dole fruit cup (any fruit)

1 tea spoon of splenda

no blendy, just poured it all into 28 oz Water bottle I got from the med center

yuuuum and oh the protein! Banane36.gif

Isn't this a bit high in fat and calories for preop? My Dr was very strict with what was and wasn't allowed. I was allowed an optifast(or similar) twice a day and some low carb veggies at night. No fruit, extra yogurt or anything like that.

To my knowledge the only thing that has any fat is the shake with 9g. That's pretty much all I can have though.

Protein shakes, fruit cups, low/no fat yogurt, veggies, and sugar free Popsicles and Jello.

Start my pre-op tomorrow. I can have 2 Protein Shakes (breakfast/lunch) and for dinner (1 meat (high protein), 1 veggie (green mostly no carrots, or corn), and 1 fruit (no sugar added). Does not sound like much but glad that I do get dinner. Shopped today for some chicken breast skinless/boneless, fish/tuna fish, turkey burgers, jello/sugar free pudding, water/vitamin Water zero cal and frozen veggies. Think I'm set for 2 weeks at least. Very excited gonna enjoy some good food tonight. No surgery date yet, awaiting approval but office say should come quick have UHC. Goodluck on your journey.

For the most part all of my dinners if I've chosen to have food instead of the shake I had lettuce. Its pretty shocking how you can honestly be satisfied by just that. I tell ya they really know what theyre talking about when they say chew chew chew, the time in between is marvelous.

You girls are lucky.....At preop all I was allowed to have was Optifast shake every 2.5 hours, and water...That was it. No yogurt, no lettuce, no fruit or veggies. I did drop 11 lbs before the surgery though. Good luck ladies....The 2 weeks after surgery were the hardest for me on the liquid diet. I am 4 days shy of being 4 weeks post op. I start solids on Friday and I cannot wait :)

I'm sure it's good, but something about the term "Mega Shake" gives me images of the old days before being banded.....attitude I suppose, pleasure in makeing anything "MEGA", such as MEGA Ice Cream Sundaes, MEGA sandwiches, MEGA Steaks, Mega order of Fries, etc, etc.

Looking at your recipe, and after being banded a year, the word Mega is just not appropiate to me anymore in terms of portion size. Now it is more a Taste of this, and a Taste of that.

I can take any of the 3 items you mention, Yougurt, shake, or fruit Cup, and that can be a meal (portion size) in itself! Let alone combine all three.

Like I said, after being banded a year, and living in the green zone, my attitudes, and terminology I suppose regarding food, has changed. The terms "Mega or Super Size, or Jumbo are just not used when referring to anything I eat/drink!

But I read all sorts of things here, and I find everyone is different, It's the end results that are important.

Good luck on your weight loss journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
