heavy lifting and exercise

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was banded 6 weeks ago. Has anyone ever been told not to lift anything very heavy? I am concerned the band might slip if you lift anything real heavy. Yesterday, I lifted a very heavy box of paper. After I lifted it, I had a slight discomfor in my stomach area. I was so afraid I might have hurt myself. I am fine today though. How do you know if your band slips?

I have a very physically demanding job and I waited exactly 6 weeks to go back to work. This is what my doctor advised. I have had no problems, knock on wood! I also workout, run and bike ride......no problems! I doubt if you did any harm to your band when you lifted that heavy box. I was a little leary when I went back to work, but I soon forgot that I was even banded!

I was told to wait 6 weeks after surgery for heavy lifting. Unless pain persists, I think you're probably fine.

I too was told to wait 6 weeks for heavy lifting (anything over 20lbs). I went back to weightlifting on the 6 week mark...no promblems. I also work in a child care center at the gym ...so I'm pretty sure that I moved some kids around before the six week mark that weighed more than 20lbs. There are some hefty babies out there :). I think the heavy lifting restraint is more about not dislodging your port as you use your ab muscles to lift. But if you only had discomort at the time but not later, you are probally fine. As always if you are really worried about it, call the doctor and ask. No question is ever too silly and thats why we and our insurance companies pay them the big bucks. Good luck and congrats on hitting your 6 week mark, I know I was truelly thankful for that mark because I was on a regular bandster diet by then, and I felt I was TRUELLY on my way.
