Recommended Posts

food porn that is!! The food channel, the cooking network, cooking shows, etc. I can't go day without watching these channels or types of shows. AND NOW i've discovered pintrest with so many awesome recipes! I'm going to try to stick to the healthy ones. I made roasted Brussels sprouts from the pioneer woman and they were delicious. Ahhhhh.... I never realized food porn existed but maybe my friend has a point?!

So long as you stick to watching and not indulging then I am sure it is not too much of an issue

It is so funny to me that so many people find themself watching the food channel after banding. I did the same think. Cupcake wars, cakeboss too. Why? I can't eat it but I watch it all the time funny! I do not refer to my as porn though.

Recipe: Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic and Cranberries

Prep Time: 10 Minutes | Cook Time: 30 Minutes | Difficulty: Easy | Servings: 16

Ingredients

3 pounds Brussels Sprouts

1/2 cup Olive Oil

Salt And Pepper

1 cup Balsamic Vinegar

1/2 cup Sugar

1 cup Dried Cranberries

Preparation Instructions

Trim/clean Brussels sprouts, then cut them in half if desired (or you can leave them whole). Arrange on two baking sheets and toss with olive oil. Sprinkle with plenty of salt and pepper and roast at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes, or until brown.

Combine balsamic vinegar and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and reduce until very thick, about 15 to 20 minutes.

Drizzle the balsamic reduction over the roasted sprouts, then sprinkle on dried cranberries. Toss and serve immediately.

Taken from the pioneer woman. They are AWESOME!!

I used to watch the food network a lot more a few years ago...and I find its better that I stay away from it...because it doesn't temp as much. Even though I enjoy cooking a lot! I also love Brussels....all veggies for that matter. But I love the way my mom makes them roasted with bacon- OMG when she made that last thanksgiving it was the most amazing thing I ever ate...paired with stuffing....to die for!!!! LoL here's the recipe for that one in case anyone is interested:

Ingredients

  • 3 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, 1 turn of the pan
  • 1 shallot, chopped
  • 1 1/2 pounds Brussels sprouts, trimmed, small spouts left whole, larger spouts halved
  • Salt and pepper, to your taste
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Directions

Brown bacon in a medium skillet over medium high heat. Remove bacon to a paper towel lined plate. Add extra-virgin olive oil to the pan, 1 turn. Add shallots to the pan and saute 1 to 2 minutes. Add Brussels spouts and coat in oil. Season with salt and pepper. Cook Brussels sprouts 2 to 3 minutes to begin to soften, then add broth. Bring broth to a bubble, cover and reduce heat to medium low. Cook 10 minutes, until tender. Transfer sprouts to a serving dish with a slotted spoon and top with cooked bacon bits.

I like to mix everything together including the bacon bits, and put it all on a roasting pan and throw it in the oven for the finished cooking...it comes out absolutely amazing!

I'm just the opposite. After being in the Green Zone, I have no interest in food whatsoever.

And I'm talking about the Man of the house who used to love to cook! My Lasagne is famous and still requested at family get togethers.

Now, I just have no interest in food! I can go to the grocery store and just wander around and not get anything other than the absoulute essentials.

I used to see things, and come with ideas on the spot.

For me, I say it is the band. It does not make me feel full, but it send the signal to my brain telling it I do not need to eat, as though I was full. But I'm not.

Sounds confusing I know, but one of the characteristics of being in the green zone is No Hunger between Meals! How else can I define that feeling?

I'm with B-52, I can't stand to watch food shows or even food commercials. and the idea of eating at one of the many buffets advertised on TV is just revolting to me! Those 4 cours meals are enough to feed me and my two children, who also have lapband. I am not a food channel addict. I don't even hea my son, who used to be a food channel addict, say he watches much anymore. Best wishes all. Karen

I can't stand watching the food channel shows. Although, I love watching Man vs Food. I find that show addicting. I just found pinterest too. Wow, they have a lot of yummy recipes.< /p>

I'm a food TV addict. I love it. I also read all the magazines and troll the food websites. But I'm a much more careful cook. I've learned how to lighten up recipes and make things taste good using spices and herbs instead of butter and fat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
