Looking At The Lap Band Is This A Good Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

Yes it works. It works because it works with you rather than against you. It lowers the number of calories that you take in--and in the "green zone" you feel satieted on a relatively small amount of food. You still have to control what goes in your mouth though--milkshakes, candy bars, icecream, liquor, sugary drinks all slide past the band without filling you up on anything but calories. If you choose exercise, you use more calories and lose more pounds. Simple math (mostly--except when you eat for any other reason other than being hungry--the band doesn't stop that). My insurance company made me pay half of the cost of surgery--best $9000 I ever spent (ok, the safari in Africa was pretty amazing too)! I would do it again in a heartbeat.

it does work but it is not a fix it all. the lap band is about choices and making the right choices. it works by helping you control the amount of food you eat but the trick is you have to control yourself also because you can eat alot of what they call slider foods, so basically, you have to learn not to eat junk stuff, gravy, chocolate all of these things slide past the band, good choices of Protein,, grains and vegetables is what keeps you full. the lap band is a slower process of losing weight in my opinion because it takes several fills or adjustments to find what they call your sweet spot and that is where you have the right amount of Fluid in your band to help this tool keep you from over eating. it works basically by placing the band around the top portion of the stomach close to the receptors that tell your brain you are full, so if you have enough saline in your band and you do not eat "slider foods" you will feel very full fast from just a few bites of food. if you force the band and attempt to eat more than what the tool is telling you to eat, you become sick and it is very painful when the food is stuck and will not go down. you also need to be a rule follower and be able to not drink with your meals. many drs say different things about times. my dr says 1 hour after meals but i have seen other drs say 10 minutes, 15 min, 30 minutes. the not drinking with the meal allows you to keep the full feeling longer so you dont eat too much. I hope this helps, if you have any further questions let me know, good luck to you, Kristy

I was banded august 31st 2011 and was 272 im now 233, was a very good choice for me and Im not a rule follower so my progress is slower than others.

Yes it works. You have to look at it as a tool. Protein first, exercise etc. It's not a miracle fix all. If you go into it with a positive attitude and follow what the Dr. tells you to do, drink, exercise and eat right then of coarse. It cuts your calorie intake tremendously. Will a cookie pass thru? YeS! So it's about making good choices and using it as the tool that it is. If you do follow what you need to do, it will most def work. :) Good luck with your decision!

But never underestimate the amount of work you have to do yourself. If you follow the rules (which aren't always easy), it works. If you don't, it might not. Everyone says it is a tool and they are SO right.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
