Drinking After Meals

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I have no problem with the Water intake or the not drinking anything 15 minutes before meals or an hour after meals. However, what I do have a problem with is the scungy feeling I have on my teeth and my throat's need for something just after I eat. Can't I just have one sip of water to rinse out my mouth and throat after I eat? It's quite vexing and uncomfortable for me!

I rinse my mouth after eating certain things and sometimes use mouthwash. Since I can't chew gum, I use the listerine dissolvable breath strips (love the cinnamon flavor!) to help with any breath issues.

Rinsing and spitting should not be an issue. My doctor said tiny sips were ok if needed.

If you can tolerate a sip, nothing tragic will happen. At my current fill level, if I take too big of a drink while eating, it will cause things to jumble up in my pouch and cause a stuck episode. Within a few minutes after my last bite, I can sip something without incident.

Personally, for me, the no drinking while eating is because it can cause me to get stuck, it has nothing to do with washing food through quicker. Prior to this last fill I'd drink with my meal without consequence. There was no difference in my satiety level. My doctor was aware of my penchant for liquids with food.< /p>

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Totally Agree.

You will know, based upon your own experiences with your band and the amount of restriction, when it is safe to drink with and how soon after meals.

IMO, the 15 minute before, 1 hour after is not a hard and fast rule, but they need to tell you something. So based upon avaerages someone figured that is a safe rule of thumb to apply to everyone.

There are many other such rules they make you learn, and learn you should. But for me, these rules didn't seem to make any difference, at least right away. But once I got a few fills, and started to get some real restriction, then these rules started to make a lot of sence.

If I have that feeling, I suck on a piece of ice only! I've had my band for almost 4 years and this is one rule, I can honestly say I have never cheated on.

It can also enlarge your pouch. You have food there that is blocked by the Band and can't go down, then you add liquid to it. The pouch will stretch. Not good over time...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
