Re-Introducing Myself

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

My name is Andrea, I live in Connecticut and had the lap-band in January 2007. I was doing great up until 6 months after surgery (I know, I'm an idiot) and everything went downhill. I know I have a ton of excuses but that's what they are-excuses. Anyway, after a gall bladder removal in September of 2011 my surgeon (who is in the same group that did my lap-band surgery) wanted me back in her office January of this year to start up on fills again and wants me there every month (thank god for good health insurance $30 a visit is nothing to complain about!)

Anyway I went in on Monday for the fill and when she pulled out what was in the band already was a brownish-orangish color much like the color that was in the drain that they put in me after my gall bladder removal (that in itself is a whole different story, a gall bladder is suppossed to be small and flacid, when they took mine out it was the size of a fist. The whole time I was having GB attacks I thought it was heartburn!!!!). So she took the Fluid out and set me up for an endoscopy on Thursday (she thought the band may have eroded)

So yesterday I go in for my endoscopy and everything is okay, she figured that there was so much bile from my gall bladder that went into my body during the removal that some of it seeped into the band and caused the dis coloration, I got home and scheduled a fill for Monday the 16th.

I am going to get back on track. Right now I'm 303 lbs, already down 11 lbs from December just by watching what I eat and excercising. Hopefully with these fills, I'm going to lose more, just need some support, and that's what I'm here for!

Thanks for reading

Thanks so much for the support I feel like Monday will be a new start for me. I have to say my new found love of the gym will help. I used to HATE going to the gym before, now I love it. I think it's because I have Pandora radio on my phone so the music varies and I don't get bored. I'm not one of those people who can watch tv or read while working out I would probably fall off the elliptical machine!!! LOL.

good luck on your re-journey. I'm just starting my journey and hope to get banded anywhere between may and july of this year. I'm on month 3 of my nutritionist diet (my insurance demands that I see a nutritionist for 6 months prior to surgery) and I'm down 11 pounds just by watching what I've been eating. I hope that everything goes good for you and that you keep on track this time. I've heard from a lot of people that it's hard to do but just the fact that you are trying to correct it and get back on track, I give you props for that. I know one person that got off track and just gave up and then ended up having her band removed a couple of months ago. GOOD LUCK :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
