I've been banded four months and have lost a decent amount of weight without doing a lot of work. This past week I decided I needed to put more effort in to my weight loss so I upped my exercise and started weighing and portioning all my food. I was feeling so good about myself because I knew I was headed in the right direction. Imagine my surprise when I stepped on the scale this morning and had gained 2 lbs!! What the heck?!? I wasn't looking for a miracle, but I really thought I would have lost a pound or two. Gaining wasn't even on my mind. So, now I'm am bummed beyond belief. I know that more exercise and Portion Control is the key, so I will continue my hard work. I'm just sad that I saw no improvement after one week. Unreasonable? Probably. It's just hard to keep up something and not see immediate results....

A couple things to keep in mind, muscle weighs more than fat. If you stepped up your exercise routine, there's a very real possibility you gained muscle though fat lost inches. If I were you, I'd take all your measurements, and watch them as much as you watch the scale. It's not uncommon at all to see your waist and thigh size go down while the scale actually goes up a couple pounds. Then, you'll see the numbers start to fall again as more fat comes off the muscle mass is a little more stabilized.

Also, could it be Water weight? As a woman, that time of the month also makes me avoid the scale because I know I'll be up.

I agree if you are exercising you could be adding muscle. And since muscle burns calories it is doing you good in the long run.

Totally normal as our weight does fluctuate quite a bit...keep doing what you are doing. Its for a lifetime and it will make a difference!

Muscle is something that takes a longer time to build, so I doubt you've gained two pounds of muscle in a week. I know the body does funny things when you start exercising because of the shock, and I hear a temporary weight gain is normal. Give your body a few weeks to get used to exercise.

Poo makes a difference too! If you aren't regular then your weight WILL go back up before it goes down! This is a major issue with me! I will lose 5 lbs and then gain back 2-3 a day to 2 later, and then I have to up my Water and Fiber before I go back down to where I was! It can be frustrating but now I just don't weight myself if I haven't been regular in a while. TMI? Maybe. But so true. :)

ErinMarie I agree with you on this one. I also come accross those issues. My weight is stuck still :(

I can't wait for my appt Feb 9th. I think I need a small fill to get me to my green zone. Fingers crossed

I did an intense session with a personal trainer and gained about 7 lbs that took around a week to come back off. My muscles like to retain a LOT of Water while healing! So it's pretty normal to have some gain when starting to exercise. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll see results!

Interesting point here. I was taking a pain killer earlier this week that messed up my regularity a little bit. That might just be the cause....

Thanks! I'm going to try and stay positive and keep it up. I know eventually I'll see results....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
