Feeling Depressed After Having Lap-Band Removed!!!!

Recommended Posts

I had to have my lapband removed after having for 7 months. Only had 1cc in band when removed. I had it filled another time but they had to remove the Fluid after 3 days to prolapse. I lost 50lbs before surgery and 72 after surgery. I had it removed 2 months ago and I feel so depressed. Noone understands why I feel the way I do. I just dont understand what happened. I did everything they told me to do. I have changed my eating habits and gave up drinking pop. My problem is that I am still paying all the bills for the surgery. I also was hoping the use the lap band as a tool to help with more weight loss. They say if I start gaining weight I can get the sleeve done but I dont know if I want to go through any more surgery. I have lost a couple of pounds since removal but I still cant get excited about it!!!! Has anyone else felt like that after having complications with the lap band?

Hi Aaron, I'm so sorry you have had to go through this. I haven't been banded yet so I can't say how I would feel after having complications, but I'm sure it's very normal to be upset. You worked so hard and followed all the rules, but didn't get the outcome you wanted or expected. I think after some time passes you will begin to feel better. Two months really isn't all that long. You need time to grieve the loss.

It is great, though, that you are still losing! Congratulations on that! Even if it feels like a hollow victory right now, it is still a victory.

Good luck, and I will keep you in my prayers.

That sucks, especially since you're still paying for it. However, you're still losing weight which is great! But I totally get how it is all on you know, and you have to rely solely on your willpower to lose the weight. Unfortunately I think sometimes there is just an unforseen complication and the band isn't for some people. Good luck!

Understand the feeling of not achieving whatever you had anticipated.

In my own struggles with 'depression' I found that when I had an active "action plan" and was proceeding towards some goal about which I felt I had some control and influence in accomplishing, then those feelings disolved....like the old 'always hungry' signals' that no longer plague me.

Although after 7+ full years of the Band, I may have to consider other options myself.

Cheers on your journey, as each step you make in the direction you choose, is a step away from depression, IMHO. The experience of the Band most likely has left you with at least SOME kind of beneficial information you can use in your new circumstance! It sounds like you made some major headway in weight reduction. Congratulations, and keep up the good work regardless of how you do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
