Got My Surgery Date!

Recommended Posts

I just met the surgeon yesterday and I am scheduled to have my lap band surgery on January 26th!!! I am so excited, I cant wait. teeth_smile.gif

I keep thinking of all the things I need to do to prepare for after the surgery. I am happy that I dont have to do a liquid diet prior to surgery. Right now I am making a list of things I want to eat before I cant anymore, sushi and steak & lobster are on the top of the list.

Can anyone recommend a good pre-mixed canned Protein shake?

Congratulations on your surgery date!

No, he is not requiring me to do a liquid diet prior, that is why I want to eat all the good stuff before I cant and start fresh with a healthier diet!

Congrats, mine is on the 27th!

I found two that were pretty good, the Atkins shakes were not horrible, what I so sometimes if I ha v ent had one in a while is pour it into a bigger container and shake it up so the consistency is a little thicker, I def helps considering its as thin as Water initially.

And boost glucose control, my dad has always been a boost drinker so I would drink them as well and when I found the glucose control, because it has very little sugar and a lot of Protein I wanted to try it, its pretty good at room temp.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
