I seriously need some advice. I'm going to call my dr., but I am not getting enough nutrition in during this mushy stage. I can't eat enough for that. I am, however, fine on getting my Protein in.

I had my surgery December 13.

I do take a daily supplement, but it doesn't seem enough. How are you handing your nutritional requirements?

My skin is dry, I'm unnaturally cold and sleep all the time. It is great to lose weight, but I don't think this was intended - LOL!

Please help me - thanks.

Terry

Usually the post-op phases are short enough that our surgeons don't worry much about mal-nutrition. Does that mean that we don't feel horrid while on them? No. We are used to eating much more than we are providing.

My surgeon allowed me to consume as much as I wanted/could tolerate during liquid/soft food phase. But mine was very short. I was moving to solids about a week to 10 days after surgery.

Really keep your Protein level up and add in a bit of fat if needed, that will also help sustain you. Not a bunch of fat, healty fat in small amounts.

Thanks, but I'm not hungry. That's not what I am saying. I had 2 weeks of liquids and 2 weeks of mushies, so that is about 4 weeks.

It IS a long time when you can't function properly. I am sleeping too much, not working, etc., and I am having more symptoms than what I posted.

I trust you because you have been successful, but I have still called my dr., and think perhaps I am experiencing something you might not have.

Thanks!

A lot of this also has to do with the fact that you have just had an operation. Of course you are not going to feel the same way that you normally do, you need to take time to recover.

The best thing to do when you are not sure about something is always to phone your Dr and that is what you have done.Hope you have a solution and are feeling better soon.

There was a time I felt very malnurished and like I was wasteing away. I knew it couldn't be healthy, but it really was short . It does get better as the process goes along. I started feeling better as my body adjusted. Now I feel "normal" as the way I eat now as a banded person has become my norm.

Oh I also add plain Protein Powder to eggs milk Soup ect. I don't add much just a 1/2 tsp. Figure it has to add some value. I'm going to try adding to reg. Meals when I get to that stage.

I just had surgery Jan 5 and I feel the same way. Today I feel a little better but I'm trying to drink more fluids and I ate egg drop Soup to try to get a little Protein. I offically made it a week out today, but it has not been easy! I go back to work tonight, and I'm not sure that I'm ready. I'm a nurse and work 12hr shift.

I believe what you are feeling is your body detoxing all the bad food from years of overeating. Protien is one of things that our bodies cannot store and it is why its essential that we keep a daily intake going, most other nutrients our bodies have stores of and will use them in times when we arent eating. None of us were/are any where near starving, the time post op is the time when our bodies are adjusting to surgery and new eating methods. Its not great to feel tired and listless etc, but this will pass, im sure many of us didnt feel great post - op. Discussion with the doctor is the best way forward if you are worried, all we can do here to help is share our experiences :)

Good luck i am sure u will feel a little more energised soon.

Congrats on all the weight you have lost! Phenomenal!

You are right, my body has to detox. I had never even thought of that!

I still have some problems to work out with my dr.

I appreciate so many of the helpful suggestions here.

I agree with Cazzy. Also since your body is use to what you would normally feed it, that has been cut, and it will react as in FEED ME ! I need all that stuff or I will be sick.

Even though your listening to your body, (that's a Great Thing) some people just don't get their Protein in, and if not Hair loss can occur. So try to get in around 60G of protein a day.

I know it's not easy, but try to get in at least 60 G of protein a day, also ask your Dr. about chewable multiple Vitamins.< /p>

I do 3 a day, and that's for the rest of my life.

So while your talking to your Dr., you might mention that.

Hope you feel better soon.

Shirley.

I appologize if I in anyway minimized your experience. That was not my intent. I also did not indicate that you should not call your surgeon. They are our first line of defense if we are not feeling right.

No one's band experiences will be the same, but we can certainly all meet her and try to support each other and exchange information.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
