Intro And Questions!

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for Feb. 8th- regular lap band. The surgeon never mentioned plication but she's a specialist in this with tons of experience, so hopefully it's the best choice. I'm going with the Realize band only because the surgeon mentioned it's a little more forgiving. I took that to mean there is a little more leeway if you overeat so as not to cause immediate vomiting/reflux.

I've only seen about 10 or 15 practices that offer the band with plication, my doctor had only done about 40-45 before he did mine. I think that it will become more popular in time and it's up to you and what you are willing to do get it.

As for the realize band, I think what your doctor meant about it being more forgiving is that the band requires more Fluid to be filled so you have more room for adjustments. You should have your doctor clarify what she meant to make sure you are on the same page.

I don't know where they come up with all those stats we hear so often. They tend to be different depending on who tells you about them. All I can speak about is my personal experience.

From my experience, I think those numbers are hogwash smile.png !

I lost 100 pounds in the first year after lapband surgery with a couple fills and zero exercise. When you reach a BMI of 25 it means you have lost 100% of your excess weight. I have a BMI of around 24, so I have lost more than 100% of my excess weight. With my experience with the band, I don't understand how someone could not take off most or all of what they need to. The band , with proper adjustments, has made it imposible for me to overeat. I know many others may disagree, but I can't grasp it any other way. My band has worked properly, so that is all I can base anything on.

My Dr did an iband, I didn't know this until after surgery, researched it and am I glad he did. I am 2 weeks PO and have lost 16#. I know this will slow when I am on regular foods, I would rather lose slowly as it is much healthier. I have a family member who had the bypass several years ago, they lost more than half their weight. They have gained 80# of that back and their health has been severely compromised by malabsorbation which is how RNY works. When I realized I couldn't keep this off by myself, I knew I could never do the bypass it scared me too bad. When I started hearing about the lapband, I knew after I researched it, the lapband was my future. I know this was lengthy, but I hope it helps. Much Luck.

OK here is the deal, you will get out of the lap band what you put into it. It is a tool and you have to remember to use it as instructed. I lost 100 pounds by six months and have now have lost 135 at ten months. I am 9 pounds from goal and know I will reach it before my 1 year. I have worked hard to get here, sticking to the program and exercising. I am not perfect (don't tell my dh I said that!) but I do work hard at it. I wish you luck and remember you are great and you can do this

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
