Food Is Not My Buddy On More.

Recommended Posts

Well banders I had my first experience with eating solid foods. Ok 1st off im suppose to start mushy foods tomorrow. Im getting married next october 2013 and my woman and I went to this bridal convention. And they had so many things to c including food. I tried a lot if things. They even had my fav grill cheese and Tomato bisque(which we plan on havin at our cocktail hour) .i know that I wasnt supposed be eating any of it, but i did and thats thats. I jus took bits of things and chewed carefully. I learned three valueable things today 1 I cant eat like I use too duh rite, 2 I felt like I went to a buffet and was so uncomfortable I couldnt stand it, 3 I talorated all of it. because I only took small bites, before bein banded I wuda never got full and now I was full like I ate the frig. Is it normal to be able to talorate food so soon or is it because I havent had my 1st fill yet.

I was/ am the same way. I can tolerate but only in small portions. I was banded 12/20. When you start getting fills, u will hit miserable mark when u over eat or eat some thing u r not suppose to.

I have over ate one time. I had some chinese and it was SOO good I just wanted a few more bites. I went over board and got sick and puked it back up.. I am not suppose to be eatting that kind of stuff anyways but I was trying to eat the rice.

I am on mushies right now. I bought me a blender and whatever my family is eatting for dinner, I eat. I mush it was potatoes in the blender. Tonight we had roast pork and garlic grilled butter potatoes. Add a little milk and butter after blending to puree and it is lapband mush!

I myself can eat anything from, salads, pizza, rice, steak, popcorn to nuts....It is all in moderation though and i can only have a few bites if i do choose to eat that.....The band will not stop you from putting the bad things in your mouth only your mind will. You have to change the way your mindset is and the band is a tool to help with that, I have small bites and chew chew chew til it is mush then take small swallows ( a whole new way to eat now) but so well worth it, GL

Please don't eat solid foods while you are still in the mushy stage. You are not helping yourself at all.

Once your are on real foods again, you will most likely feel as though you can eat anything and as much of it as before your surgery. This is because your swelling from the surgery will have gone down (that is why you are easily satisfied at the moment.)

Once you achieve restriction with fills (the number varies from person to person), you will only be able to eat smaller portions, very slowly and extremely well chewed.

Even then, there may be some foods which you simply can't eat anymore. For me, they are breads and red meat. Rice is also becoming more difficult.

I have learned (the hard way!) to recognise my soft stop signals and then to stop eating. When I feel as though I have had enough - I must stop. No more cleaning my plate or eating just another couple of bites. No more rushing my meals. No more drinking with and immediately after eating. Being stuck is painful, uncomfortable and a very good reminder of why I need to eat properly.

The other great reason is my success. I have lost 54kg in 9 months by following my dr's rules on eating and exercising as closely as possible (no, I am not perfect but I am working very hard with my band.)

Good luck!teeth_smile.gif

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
