Have You Had A Unfill Just For Vacation Reasons Or A Break?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 12-29-11 & have our 30rd anniversary in May. We're going on a 8 day cruise in April & I was wondering the same thing. I dont want to go crazy after 4 months but I do want to enjoy myself. I guess I'll ask my dr the same question as time gets closer.

Rather than fill then unfill, why don't you consider postponing fills until after you are back? I know you'd like to get to the losing, but really I think you would be doing yourself a disservice. I waited an extra month for my first fill due to a Panama Canal cruise. I did not want to risk getting a fill right before we left and then having a problem. Or at least consider just spreading out your fills so as to not unfill anything.

You got the band to help you create better eating habits. Getting unfilled for trips doesn't do that. There's plenty you can eat on a cruise. We usually eat at the buffet. I check out the entire thing first and then make my choices, so I can keep it under control. I use a salad plate not the big dinner plates.

Just my opinion...for what it's worth..

I haven't been getting fills in well over a year. I love my new body and reward it by buying nice clothes and doing more things than thinking about food. Its not that I want to eat everything on the cruise, I just want to be comfortable and not get stuck.

I didn't think my doctor would unfill for personal reasons but I asked and they said yes!

Are you getting stuck often now? If not, then don't worry about getting unfilled. If you are, then you either do need a slight unfill or to reassess if you're eating slowly enough and chewing well enough. I get stuck maybe once every two months if that, and certainly never badly enough to worry about needing an emergency unfill if I'm travelling. I would be more inclined to speak to someone on the cruise management team to ask about dr's facilities on board in the unlikely event you get stuck. Or bring whatever you use to ease the feeling of tightness you get after you get stuck (I bring Optifast with me when I travel, plus I buy pineapple juice when I arrive - not that I've needed it in years).

I dunno, I think getting unfilled and therefore able to eat more sets you up for bad habits in the future. That's why I wouldn't do it myself. Do it this time and what stops you from doing it again in 6 months, again in a year, all the time? So many fall off the wagon this way.

But if you think you'll be able to be in control, then do what you think is best. I'm just giving advice from my POV, you don't have to take it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
