New To Forum- Introduction

Hi ! I am having the Lap Band procedure performed on Friday, January 13th. (Trying to not be superstitious) I have had trouble losing weight over the last 8 years. I will get started for several days to a week, then give in and go pig out at Chilis or similar place. I work as a midwife and deliver babies for a busy practice at our hospital. My 5 day work week is much more than that. I have to keep going sometimes on no sleep. I struggle with feeling like cooking, exercising, or pretty much anything else once I get home. So, I have put on about 40 pounds I would say over the last 5-6 years, and I was already overweight to start.

I am sick of my body, being tired, stressed, unable to breathe just walking across the parking lot, or unable to get up one flight of stairs at work, having joint and back pain...you name it. I feel I need some help and I hope this is going to give me the extra boost I need to get healthy. I know the things I should be eating and doing, I just cant seem to stay on track. My BMI was 34.? at my consultation. I would like to lose from 200 down to 135. I would also like to have the energy to get all my body back in shape and toned throughout this adventure.

Thankful for the forum and the support. Good luck to everyone here!

Kim

Best of luck and welcome! Load up on broth, take care of yourself, don't over do it while recovering and wear some comfy clothing. My surgeon found a hernia while operating and fixed it. When I went back to work, I had a bra with no under wire that saved my life! Please take it easy and enjoy your down time. Go through the forums and get familiar with others experiences, their advice certainly helped me and put my mind at ease about things.

If your having gas pain, invest in a heating pad if you don't have one. Having someone handy to run your shoulders will certainly help and walk your butt off!

Keep us posted :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
