Post-op Banded 10/18/08 Food Unbarable Stuck!! Need Advice Please.

Recommended Posts

Okay so it's been a little more than 3 years since I had the surgery done. Lost 115 lbs. Gained 15 back to be honest. Never had a fill because I never followed doctors orders to the tee. I know very stupid but hey, i still lost weight and I'm still alive. Go me. However, I have had my band plugged up for 2 full days. Nothing will go down guys. It just sits there and wont pass and it's very uncomfortable. I've had food stuck before but usually managed to push it through with meat or chips or just plain vomiting but right now I am completely clueless. I tried a few swigs of mineral oil to loosen it up and no luck. Does anyone have any advice? I dont have insurance anymore and really cant afford an ER visit. *fingers crossed*

I think you should go to an ER right away. They have to treat you, whether

you're able to pay or not. If nothing is really going down, you'll soon become

dehydrated and maybe become hypoglycemic. Don't wait, do something

right away, and good luck

If it has been stuck for 2 days then I would think the only option would be to go and see a Dr. The thing is they normally remove some of the fill to let the blockage go through but if as you say you have no fill then this probably won't work.Maybe they put some fill in at the time of surgery so it may be possible to remove some. You may be swollen from trying to vomit etc and the best thing to reduce swelling is ice. Try sucking on icechips and see if that helps. It is not an instant cure but for me after about an hour at the most I seem to have success. Papaya supposedly works but not for everyone, I have tried and it does nothing for me.

I am concerned that maybe you have a slip and if that is the case then you definitely need to see a Dr as it is not going to sort itself out.

Once you have this sorted out I think you need to take a good look at how you are using your band. It does not sound like you are using it the way in which it is intended to be used. I certainly don't think trying to push something stuck through with meat or chips is the way to go!

Hope everything is OK and you get some relief soon.

Kind of off topic but the fact that you have to think about the cost of going to your ER makes me extremely grateful for Australia's public health system. I may have to wait a few hours unless I am the most seriously person there, but I know I can see a Dr and get the treatment I need without having to pay a cent.

hope you are feeling better

You should really see someone ! You might have a slight fill at the time of banding. If they stick a needle in your Port, and Fluid comes up into the syringe ? Then there is your small fill.

They can look around and see what's wrong.

Good Luck, Shirley.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
