yvonne74 73 Posted January 7, 2012 Evening! I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Yvonne and currently needing to lose weight before I can get scheduled for surgery. My BMI is too high so I need to lose about 20 lbs. I have been working on losing for 3 wks now and only down 1 pound I have added 30 min of exercise a night and cutting back on carbs. I am here to start creating myself a support group, recipes, weight loss ideas, etc. **Editted to add** Guess I should add more to give more of a background. I've been pretty discouraged by 2 PAs who said the lap band would not work for me due to my BMI (50) and diabetes. So I have been pretty beat up (so to speak) by negativity in my decision to get the band. My insurance will not cover the sleeve and have a friend who has had a lot of bad side effects from the bypass so the Lap Band seems to be the best choice (to me anyways) despite the lack of support from the Dr's office. VP611 1 Posted January 7, 2012 I have struggled with my weight my entire life and in my experience the only manageable diet is weight watchers.. It's a slow process but if you add an excercise routine with it the lbs will drop and you wont be miserably starving yourself!! Good luck!!! Also, make sure you ate drinking LOTS AND LOTS of water!! yvonne74 73 Posted January 7, 2012 Thanks for the reply! My current addiction is sugar free kool-aid. I can drink quarts of it a day by myself.
laddie1229 18 Posted January 7, 2012 Yvonne, my BMI was 52.8 when I first started my journey. My insurance wanted a supervised weight loss program and lots of other tests. Weight Watchers enabled me to lose 42# in 5 months. I was banded 12/29 and am down a total of 54#. If your medical caretakers are not supportive try to find the right ones. Don't let ANYONE stop you from having a healthy and happy life. Best Wishes and Good Luck
