Lessoned Learned

Recommended Posts

I bowl on Thursday nights and usually have a salad from McDonalds (about 6 weeks post-op no fill yet) and that does just fine. Last night McDonalds was busy so I went to Jack In The Box and imagine my surprise when they said they dont do salads so I decided to have the chicken fita pita, it took me 45 min to eat because I took tiny bites and chewed real well. Needless to say that didnt work, about 1.5 hrs after I ate I started having upper tummy pain, I thought I was just over doing bowling so I continued on. Came home went to bed was fine this morning until I had my egg and 1 piece of bacon about 30 minutes later the pain was back and not going away.

I called my Dr and found out that Fast food chicken is BAD cause it is dry and "Rubberie" all these years I thought I was doing good when I was on one of my many diets. Today Im on Clear liquids, tomorrow I can advance to soft foods again.

Imagine my surprise when my Dr said if I have to do fast food do a hamburger just throw out the bun! Ok first lesson

I get my first fill on Wednesday and I cant wait! I am needing my tool to help me with Portion Control, Ive been eating healthy stuff just to big a portions.

Thanks for listening

Hmm maybe that is why I can never eat those yummy BBQ chicken wraps (less the wrap) at McDonalds? Hmm..whoda thunk? But me loves a burger..maybe I'll try that - less the bun

chicken is good and healthy when you are on a diet but it's not so great with a band as you have discovered. The dark meat is easier to eat than the white and it is also better if it is cooked using a moist cooking method or with some kind of sauce. Don't give up on chicken just try different ways of cooking it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
