Difficulty With Bubble Post-op?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I'm new here and I was just banded 2 days ago. I'm noticing that whenever I drink/eat anything, I feel almost like I get nauseous. It's hard to explain... it feels almost like I'm going to either burp or vomit what I ate, but then the feeling goes away. I've been taking tiny tiny sips about a minute or two apart from each other. This happens maybe 20 seconds after I have a sip of whatever I'm drinking. At first I thought it was a bubble of some of the surgical gas left in my abdomen? But it's starting to really bother me and I feel like I'm really not getting as many calories as I should be. I can barely even finish 4oz of my Protein shake.

Anyone else experience this?

Yep, take a week or more to eat right the anesthesia and surgery prevent you from eating right, don't worry, wont be long, and now im going into the milk of magnesia stage, cause that's not working yet either. I was banded 22 Dec.

Ah you have the famous bubbles :) they are nothing to worry about....you have to retrain your head not to drink or eat too fast....you have to take it very slow.....it takes a while for you to retrain your brain....all the bubble are normal....they advise you not to drink for 30 mins before you eat.....and definitely you cannot eat and drink at the same time as you will get sick

I wrote my dr concerning the elephant sitting on my chest & burping everytime I stood up for the first week.He said two things-still swollen insides & it takes about a week for the swelling to go down so the chest feels alittle better. And he leaves alittle Fluid in the band so that will effect the chest & cause some burping. Keep drinking just slower, give it time & pretty much had a liquid in my hand the whole time that I was awake. It's a little better now. Good luck!

VERY slow sips of warm Fluid helped me. I was unable to drink cold Water for weeks after I was banded. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about the uncomfortable feeling you have at first. It's just par for the course. After a while, you will be able to drink/eat your mushies and not feel uncomfortable.

Thanks everyone, glad to know I'm not alone! The "bubble" has been getting better even this morning, but it's definitely still there. Wannabe21bmi, I think you're on to something with the warm fluids! This does seem to only happen when I drink cold Water or sip anything cold like ice chips... thanks!!

I was banded 3 days ago and I'm still burping and feeling like you described also... I am hoping it works itself out :/

I am 5 days out and have the same thing. It makes it hard to stay positive but i am finding that just hearing that its normal and should go away soon helps me.

I agree, dang I never thought about how hard these first few days would be! The "bubble" sensation is better today, but now I'm dealing with gas in my left shoulder. Ugh! Just gotta keep our heads up and remember the reasons why we did this! :) I even wrote myself a letter a day pre-op in case I felt down on myself this first week!

Four days out and I have the same bubbles and shoulder pain. I try to walk after my Protein Drink and that helps, even if it is just a few laps around the house. Also a lot of stretching has helped!! Loosen up all my upper body muscles and move the gases around. I have been drinking tea in the morning and It feels good going down. I still have a little bit of a sore throat from surgery, I am going off the pain pills so I can be more alert and hopefully have more energy. How can I possibly drink the required fluids if I sleep the day away.

Congrats to all of us for surviving our pre-surgery liquid diets, the actual surgery and now the post effects! We did it!!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
