Has anyone started solids? If so how did it go?

I have. It has gone okay. I have not had any stuck issues or vomiting. I have been able to figure out my body's signal for being full. If I eat too much I get a pain in my shoulder. It has been an adjustment from soft foods to solid. I am taking it a day at a time.

I was banded on 2/24, and this was the first day I was allowed to have soft yet solid food. I did fairly well with following the list of allowed foods, though I am feeling a little nauseous for the first time since the surgery. Breakfast was a small egg omlet with a very small amount of cheddar cheese, 2 oz of banana. Lunch: 3 oz of shaved turkey and another 2 oz of banana. Dinner: 3 oz of grilled sea scallops and 2 oz of steamed broccoli. Now it's time for some milk...I was unable to drink nearly as many oz of free fluids today...having to force myself to eat when not really hungry.

Today was also the first day that I really left the house for an all day excursion since my surgery. Today was a belated birthday celebration, so 2 meals were at restaurants. I believe I did well, all things considered. Though it does seem to me that I must be gaining weight eating so much...

Thats great you all are doing so well! I have been afarid to try fruits and lettuce. I have been wanting a salad so bad! But I was told to stay away from lettuce. I have been able to eat baked chicken pretty well and lunch meat as long as i chew and chew and chew. Green Beans are okay too. I am always hungry! I cant wait to get my first fill.

I just saw my dietician on Thursday of last week and got the ok to eat salads. I had surgery on the 8th of Feb and came off mushies March 16th.. all I've been eating is Protein and salads since then and haven't had a problem at all.. I was never told I couldn't eat salads during all my wt lose classes, just that wouldn't be able to eat them during my mushie stage.. I was given many recipes from them and most include salads..

thats wonderful news. my primary care dr commented on how hard it would be, also it was in a small booklet that i was given. actually the booklet says that raw salad veges are the last thing to be re introduced. various comments the specialist made just gave me the conclusion that perhaps salads were out?? im so happy to hear that they arent. i love salad. im just in the middle of growing lots of fresh salad lettuces and herbs right now.

My dietician is concentrating on me getting more Protein than veggies. My skin and nails are a mess. I'm probably not getting enough fat either (never thought I would ever say that). Is anyone else having these issues?

I had to up my protein. I am really not a big breakfast person, so my doc has given me the okay to do a Protein Shake for breakfast, although I need to be on complete solids. I picked up a Body Fortress protein shake and it has 52 grams per scoop. I also take a protein shot that has 26 grams in it. That way between my solid food intake and these items they are helping me meet my protein requirements for the day. Thankfully my skin, nails and hair are hanging in there, for now I guess

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
