Well, I was banded yesterday at about noon. Took an hour for the surgery and 3 hours in recovery, didnt get discharged till this morning at 9am. To those who get in and out in just a few hours after surgery, kudos cause I got no idea how you did it. Like you see all the time, as did I, the gas is the worst of it all. I've been walking a lot to get it to come out and boy is it a pain in the ass. Good luck to everyone!!

Still on Pre-op diet and I was getting better at it but caught my kids' stomach virus Tuesday and not keeping much in. Talked to surgery-nurse she said to keep up with the fluids and Protein Shake. And they'll check with me 1-2 days before surgery (2/21) to make sure I'm clear to have procedure.

I'm sure I'll be done with virus by then but still stressed over it. I'm self pay and I got days off for procedure and no way I'd be able to reschedule the days off, already had issue getting the days approved on short notice.

Glad to hear that your doing OK after all of that. I'm hoping that my surgery and recovery goes quickly. I'm having a hernia repair done plus the band. Surgery is tomorrow at 7:30 am. I'm excited, but still scared of the anesthesia. Strange sensations. Less than 12 hours to to band time!

Hey fellow Feb. bandsters! Just wanted to check in. Today is day 3 post-op, def. the hardest for me. Woke up this morning with terrible nausea! Had to take phenagrin (sp) and slept most tge day. Still in very little pain, have not had pain meds since yesterday morning. I have a very high tolerance for pain (two c-sections, gallbladder removal, and oral surgery with very little meds) I would rather be in pain than nauseous! I pray that each of you have it as easy as I have had it.

Blah! I have developed a severe reaction to the pain med! I am covered from head to toe in a itchy rash! Good thing that I don't beef to really take it. I don't have much pain, nothing liquid tylenol cant handle.

Surgery was yesterday at 7:30 am. Was most nervous about the general anesthesia and made sure my anesthesiologist was aware, but once they gave me the first shot - I was out! Aside from being uncomfortable, not really painful in the abdomen, the only real issue was nausea. Seems to have subsided. Woke up early this AM due to husband snoring, so hear I am. Looking forward to a slower paced, hopefully relaxing "normal" day. We'll see.

Glad to hear that everyone else is doing well.

Southerngirl - sorry to hear about the reaction to the pain meds - thank goodness for liquid tylenol!

Good luck to the rest of the February bandsters!

So glad to read that all of the February bandsters are doing so well...it continues to give me some hope! I really hope that I will feel relatively ok post-op. and I agree, definitely easier for me to cope with pain than nausea.

This is Day 9 of my pre-op liquid diet. I have been very compliant with the exception that I don't seem to tolerate the Vitamins and Calcium pills very well, and I have not taken them every day. I have lost another 3 pounds since my pre-op appointment this past Wednesday. Right now, I'm coasting along until surgery date of 2/24.

Today I will complete the inventory list of the items you all have shared were important to have on hand...and hopefully get my prescriptions filled. I'm still fighting with my insurance company for precertification of one of my medications which my doctor changed to a soluable tablet from a time release capsule. Such a headache to be caught between the pharmacy, Aetna, and the doctor. Will just pay full price for a month supply and file a claim for reimbursement after they all get on the "same page".

I hope that everyone will continue to post and share their ongoing experiences and adjustments to life post-op...wishing continuing success to you all!

Nearly 5 days post op now. I have been doing great except last night I think I drank too much chicken broth too quickly and developed excruciating shoulder pain for about 6 hours. Couldn't get any sleep until 530 am. Still hurts but much less. Live and learn lol.

I was banded february 9th.. recovering nicely.. just developed some alien rash on my torso.. no where else.. don't have a clue that it is.. sent an email to my docs... maybe they have seen it before.. just so worried that it is an allergy to the product they used for banding... that would be tragic.. im not going to panic.. at least not yet . weight loss is going slow and steady.. have no plans to give up the ship for a rash.. never heard anyone dying of a rash..

Hello Everyone! I was banded on the 14th, still kinda sore around the larger incision. I've been doing the Clear Liquids and Protein Shakes. Yesterday, I tried some blended potato Soup (2oz) and did fine with it. I'm just curious if anyone is having problems with getting in all their Protein? I do get full much faster. I've had some indigestion, but not much. So far, the worst part is having to sleep on my back. I can't wait for my stomach to heal enough that I can sleep on my stomach! Also, what kind of Vitamins are you taking?

So good to hear everyone's updates! Congrats to all who have made it through surgery, and good luck to all on pre op diet... I have six days til surgery and I'm finally starting to get excited... I'm down 8lbs so far on pre op (Atkins) and I'm feeling pretty good! My mom who is getting banded with me is also on Atkins, but she has been cheating quite a bit, and hasn't lost any.... Her BMI is pretty low so she'll probably be ok, though I think she's sticking to diet after a little scare from the surgeon at pre op meeting.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
