LB_Andy 0 Posted January 5, 2012 Hi everyone: Please can you help me out? I had my surgery 10 days ago and I'm supposed to be on a liquid/mushies diet right now. Unfortunately I experienced no restriction in the band I started to get worried thinking the band may have slipped...I ate 6 glasses of soft desert, two large[!] chocolate bar and, sushi rolls, 4 slices of cheese and felt absolutely no restriction at all. I know I shouldn't have eaten all these things, but I can't believe that with 5cc restriction in my band I can eat this much. Please give me advice. I'm "only" BMI 30 and feel like I'm on the track to gain weight. Should I get a fill now? Please help as soon as possible!
B-52 7,113 Posted January 5, 2012 You keep eating like that, so close to post surgery - 10 days, and your band will slip - OR WORSE. You ask for help? What can one possibly tell you? Did your Dr. not give you specific instructions? When I first read this post I was skeptical it is for real. Without getting into much detail, I work in Healthcare. I travel to different Hospitals, clinics and see patients all day. All pediatrics with their families. I am there to provide a service because they have a need. In order for me to work with them and have successful positive outcomes, they have to meet me half way and be cooperative. When a patient does not, it is though I am wasting their time, when actually they are wasting mine. In other words, Your Dr. is providing a service for your benefit...LISTEN TO HIM. If not, don't expect his best either. 2 LB_Andy and elcee reacted to this
Poinzy05 1 Posted January 5, 2012 Hi. Dont freak out. Keep with the liquid/mushies your suppose to be on. Just because you can eat those things, you shouldnt. Your still healing. Yes you dont have restriction right now. Because you dont have much Fluid in your band at the moment. Right now is all about healing and having your own will power to keep with the diet. The band is a tool. When you start getting fills then it will start working for you. But you have to have your own will power to make the best choices. Good luck to you. 1 LB_Andy reacted to this
ccsbulldog 59 Posted January 5, 2012 I would contact your doctor. I had my surgery 6 days ago and I am also on a liquid diet. I find that the shakes (sugar free carnation) and my non fat high Protein yogarts and my cream Soups are filling me to only eat every 4 hours. It doesn't seem right that you are able to eat all of that food. I'd worry about doing something to my band or worse! 1 LB_Andy reacted to this
LB_Andy 0 Posted January 5, 2012 Hello again! Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I completely agree with all of you that it was very foolish of me to eat this much especially only 10 days after my surgery. I only wanted to "test" the band to feel the restriction and started to get worried thinking that it cannot be possible to eat this much with 5 cc fill, is it?????? I will definite go back to liquid/mushies diet. Am i correct in my understanding that the band basically does basically nothing until i had the optimal amount of fills? I was able able to eat so much with 5cc fill. I will be patient and let my body heal.
Catherine55 43 Posted January 5, 2012 You are going to seriously hurt yourself if you keep this up. Also, why are you eating like this? You had weight loss surgery, but from what you ate, it sounds like you are not committed to making this work. My very best recommendation for you is to (a) talk to your band doctor about what you did, and be honest; and (b get him or her to recommend a good therapist who can help you to work through the issues that caused you to sabotage yourself and your recovery. I do not mean to sound judgmental or preachy -- I mean this advice very sincerely and believe that it will help you if you follow it. Please don't do this to yourself. Don't you want to make this work?? It's actually POSSIBLE for you to be a thin person if you just follow the rules more often than not. You haven't ruined anything yet. This may just be a blip. Just get back on the wagon and get the help you need so that you can succeed. With best wishes for your longterm success. Catherine
