Light Headed!!!!

Recommended Posts

So every time I get up from sitting, I get light headed. I have to take some good deep breaths and it goes away immediately. It's been this way since I've had surgery. Only when I get up from sitting. Anybody else get this? I am about 3 month post op and I've already lost 90 pounds total. I did have high blood pressure before surgery, and now I'm totally normal. Maybe that is it? I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated:)

Are you eating enough? You have lost a lot of weight within 90 days; a pound a day. WOW!! It sounds as if you are not getting enough to eat. Please call your doctor and post your update. I would love to know what is going on.

Are you taking any meds for blood pressure? If so, you may need to see your dr. and have them adjusted. I'm off one of my bp meds - and I think I'm getting close to getting rid of the other one because I get so light headed or dizzy that sometimes I have to set down and hold onto something.

I'm taking in about 900 calories a day including 3 meals and 2 double Protein Shakes. I used to take 5 mg of blood pressure medicine but have been off that for 5+ months. My caloric goal is 1200 by my doctor, I lift weights 4 days a weeks and do 8+ miles of running/walking a week. Hitting 1200 calories a day is hard!

Hi Joel, I think the first thing you should do is see your primary physcian who originally put you on BP meds. When I lost a lot of weight a very long time ago my BP meds were way too strong and every time I got up I would feel very light headed and dizzy, a very weird feelilng. When your BP drops you will feel this way. High BP would more than likely experience headaches, heart palpitations, etc. Deff see your doctor, you have lost a tremendous amount of weight in such a small time and I reckon your body could be taking a physical toll because of the drop.

Keep us posted!

PS: I have gained back so much weight since then and I am on a higher dose of BP meds now because it spiked. I am 4 months shy of getting aproval for the lapband surgery :)

You may have postural hypotension - a drop in BP when you get up from sitting or lying down. You may need your BP meds adjusted. I have been on high BP meds for ages. About 9 months after surgery I ended up in hospital as I collapsed in a hotel with extremely low BP. I was taken off my meds altogether. Over a couple of months my BP increased to the point where i am back on meds to control it ( not all high BP is due to weight, or diet or often any obvious cause).

As you are off all BP meds, there isn't much you can do except be careful upon rising. Your pressure is dropping and your body isn't able to adapt quickly enough. I do it too, sometimes. I also have a problem with my pressure dropping if I have been standing for a prolonged period. My PCP says he sees this from time to time in his weight loss patients, not only WLS patients. Something happens to the body's ability to interpret the signals to correct BP as we lose weight.

For me, a signal in increase BP is taken as a signal to drop BP, and I drop! Oh yes, I do! White as a sheet and sweaty. If I don't get seated, I'll pass out. It's great fun, but better than a stroke.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I have not needed my BP medicine for the last 5-6 months. All my BP checks come back great. It's weird, it only started after surgery. And seems to only happen when I stand from sitting. Maybe it is my caloric intake. I will adjust my diet. But other than sitting to standing I never get the feeling. I am extremely active, play football every weekend and never get lightheaded, lift weights, run etc..... Very odd

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
