Anyone Have Pus In Their Incisions?

Recommended Posts

My situation is a little different. I was banded in October 2009 and the buckle came undone. I was operated again on Dec. 13 and the dr. removed the old band and put in a new one. He removed a lot of scar tissue which is one reason I think I still hurt.

BUT one of my incisions has gotten some pus in it the last 2 days. I have been squeezing the pus out and putting hydrogen peroxide on it.

How would you treat this? Is what I am doing OK?

Thanks!

If I were you I would let the doctor know. When you do squeeze pus out, what color is it , and does it have an odor? These are things that they will want to know. Hope this helps:)

Good questions. It comes out white, but no odor. Time to call the Dr. eh?

I had a scab in one of my incisions that was really deep and it started having pus after more than two months, I was putting peroxide on like you did and using a wash rag to wipe away the wetness and it pulled the scab off, since then it healed completely up. I think it was the glue stuff and it was ready to come outta there.

When in doubt, call the doctor. It sounds like it could be normal drainage, but you never know. Signs of infection usually include redness, swelling, tenderness, and purulent drainage (pus) that has an unmistakable odor.

I had the same issue some what when I got my lapband back in October. I called the doctor and long story short was told it was the glue they used to close me up that I was seeing. I would call the doctor to be safe but if you are cleaning it and there is no odor I think you are doing all that you can.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
