Started Solids Early.... Concerns (warning Tmi)

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I had my surgery on Dec.19, and somehow survived Christmas without cheating. I did however try some soft solids on thursday and friday, which didn't cause me any discomfort. New years eve I had real solids, ie. some chicken, shrimp. other than feeling really full, it went okay. So Sunday I had some more solids... 3-4oz of lamb, a few bites of greek salad, and some steamed vegetables. Everything that I've eaten I've made sure to chew like crazy. - Concern = about 12hrs after the meal, woke up with a major stomach ache, diarrhea, nausea. Stomach ache lasted about 12hrs, felt like there was a brick in my right side, which gradually got better as the Water I was sipping constantly flushed through me. It's now the next morning and I'm still having diarrhea, slight nausea....... Is this something I should be getting checked out? or can I attribute it to eating what my body was not ready for?

I had it done on the 16th and been regular foods for about a week or so. I just focused on eating healthy and Proteins. I was a little nervous but when I talked to my doctor she said if I can eat with out having any problems then go for it. I was worried I would do damage if I tested different things but she assured me I would be fine and so far I can eat about anything as long as it is chewed well.

I had some steak and one bite of potato for new years and a couple non carbonated alcoholic drinks, I felt full after the steak, so the potato didn't really appeal to me. I also had some pulled pork and a little chili on yesterday. So far so good...I just love being full after eating a little bit. I see that ordering kids portions will have to be something to get used to when going out. teeth_smile.gif

I get my first fill today and she said I will notice a big difference in the amount of food I will be able to eat and start dropping weight more quickly. I am down 16 lbs since the 9th (pre-op diet) of Dec and I am pleased with that so far, so I look forward to what the fill does.

How early is early? My doctor's program did not have solids for 4 week! Please return to your doctors food plan. Being on liquids and mushies is sucky but it is doable. Your stomach is healing from surgery! I would hold off on solids at this point.

Hopefully your body punishing you for eating that will stop you from doing it again. If you try hard you can defeat this band and stay fat.

Seems a little early for solids, especially the ones you have eaten. I havent been banded yet, but my plan from my Dr is liquids week one, then alternating liquids and mushies week 2, then after that I believe it is full mushies...then week 4 is creeping back into solid foods...I know it is the holidays (or was) but try to keep in mind that your body is healing, and probably will be for some time.

That being said, I have had instances where alcohol has given me some of the symptoms you listed (even without being banded), so maybe it was that...no alcohol for at least 6 months after surgery is what my doc recommends

I did liquids for 1 week, mushy for 1 week then into regular solids and had no problem. I know more than a few people who have terrible trouble with even a little alcohol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
