I need HELP!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm so glad to have found this site. It's been 10 months since my surgery and I don't think I'm doing very well. I can't stop eating bad foods...all the sweets and junk food. Funny how all the good foods get stuck but the garbage just slides down so easily. Sec... *popping in another M&M*... There I'm back now.

Why is it that I'm so hungry all the time? I thought we were only supposed to be able to eat 1/2 cup of food at a meal but I can eat so much. I'm sure I've stretched my pouch. I've had plenty of fills and if I get anymore, I'll end up not being able to eat anything but liquids. Not what I want.

I've lost 40 pounds so far but have not lost anything in the last 4 months. I have to lose another 40 more pounds but it's not going to happen if I keep eating this crap and being hungry all the time.

Also, does anyone else throw up a lot? I get food stuck all the time and I throw up at least 3 or 4 times a week. And I still don't lose weight. I think I paid $20,000 to become a bulemic. Except that I don't lose weight.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.........PLEASE!!! I need some motivation.

Thanks

Wendy

You should probably go see your doc if you are getting sick 3-4 times a week! You need to use your will power and eat better foods. Talk to the doctor, explain to him about your eating, fills, and about how you think you've stretched your pouch. It is better to come clean and get it fixed than let it go and just keep getting sick, eating junk, and not losing.

When I was first Banded I did the same thing I lost about 50lbs in the first 4 months and then I went for a good 3 months with out losing a pound matter fact I gained 10lbs on one visit...then he started doing more fills and that's when I started to lose more weight. I totally understand about the junk food going down but the real/good food not. I could eat a candy-bar and it wouldn't make me sick or anything but as soon as I ate something healthy I was getting sick. I think that has to do with your chewing though. B'cuz the candy-bars I usually ate was hersheys and they was easy to just melt with no chunks or anything and they could be eaten fast. When I first had the surgery I still had a bad habit of wanting to eat fast like I use to do. Then after gaining weight instead of losing I had to set my mind to what I wanted and what I had the surgery for. Which I've done really good. But I think if you just use more mind control and eat small bites but chew really well and LEAVE the junk food alone just tell yourself you payed that money to get to the goal weight u set and continuously tell youself that everyday it may work for u. The getting sick thing I would deffinately talk to your doctor b'cuz that's not really normal unless your band is too-tight. Well atleast that's always been my situation.....I would consult with your doctor and just tell him what's going on and maybe your not losing anymore because of the junk food I sometimes get hungry but Yougart is really good to fill me up maybe u should try different types of healthier foods that have a great taste sort of like a candy-bar or different candy LOL I know that's about impossible but there is other options that are farely good..... Good luck & congrats on what you've lost thus far!

Something I've been learning about is how carbs are quickly digested and Proteins take a long time. When you eat a candy bar, or breads, or even veggies, you are eating foods that are quickly broken down and used up.. then your body starts calling for more because it needs the fuel to keep going. Protein takes longer for the body to burn so you don't get the hunger feelings as fast.

When you say you aren't eating healthy foods, but you are overeating and concerned that you are stretching your pouch, I can't help but wonder if you aren't eating a lot of foods that easily slip through your band. Especially since you have said you're getting stuck and throwing up so often when you try to eat healthy foods. If you are not able to eat Proteins, like fish or chicken, you might be too tight. And perhaps you're feeling so hungry because you're not getting the Protein your body so badly needs.

I don't know what all you are eating, but offhand I would guess you are eating a lot of empty calories that are leaving you hungry but not losing weight. Try adding Protein shakes back into your diet. Try eating very moist flaky fish. Gorton's has wonderful frozen fillets (2 per box) that come in garlic butter and lemon pepper. tuna mixed with a fat free dressing (I like thousand island) is a great source of protein. If you can't manage to get these proteins down, with careful and slow chewing, then you should certainly talk to your doctor about a possible unfill.

I think you will find that once you are giving your body what it -really- needs, the hunger will stop and it will be much easier to control your food intake.

Best of luck to you. Let us know how you're doing.

When I was too tight, I avoided the foods that would get stuck (hard proteins) and went for the junk! I had a bit of a fill removed and now I can eat semi-normal and go for the healthier stuff. Of course, I still want and sometimes eat the junk..but not as much.

Hard Proteins will give relief from the hunger pains and some of the cravings!

Good luck. Shawn

Being too tight (resulting in vomiting) and yet having a greater capacity for food is not a good sign. You could very well have a slip, and I would go and have a fluoro so your doc can check on the position of your band. If the band is still in a good place, then I would get a slight unfill so that the "good" food doesn't get stuck, and you can actually fill up on some Protein, veggies and fruit and feel satisfied without having to reach for the more easily consumed sweets.

You do know that vomiting is the #1 cause of slippage, right? So you want to avoid that at ALL costs. Really.

Good luck, and let us know how the fluoro goes!

Thank you everyone for your very helpful advice and suggestions. I really feel in such a slump and so concerned about all the vomiting. I think I will go see my dr. and see if maybe I need him to losen the band some.

Thank you all so much!

Wendy, reading your post I felt as if I'd written it myself. I am so depressed about my weight loss I gravitate towards the junk because I figure what's the point? I started off at 205 and have only lost to 189 since mid Sept. I can eat all the stuff I used to but just more slowly. I, like you, have been throwing up frequently and I just got another fill today. It usually only happens when I'm rushing to eat so I guess I just need to slow down. With four kids to run after it's really hard. Knowing there's someone out there like me is encouraging funny as that sounds. Also, I can't figure out how to add a ticker to the bottom of my profile, date and doctor of my surgery. I'm not computer savy so if anyone could help it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for your response Tezcanela6. I guess I thought this surgery was the easy answer to my weight issues...but boy was I wrong. I'm still hungry so often and I don't get that full feeling like I think I should after I eat. I don't know if my band is too tight or not. I can't eat any meat, actually I'm very limited with the foods I can eat. But it's amazing how junk food or sweets manage to go down so easily! This site is very helpful though. It definitely gives so much support.

I wish you luck and maybe this latest fill will be what you needed. Sorry I can't help with how to add a ticker to your profile. I can't even figure out how this entire site works. I'm still kind of lost.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
