Regnu 9 Posted January 2, 2012 Has anyone had the band done with a diagnosis of Barrett's Esophagus from acid reflux? I was going to have the band done in two weeks, but just had the upper GI done and found this out. Have not talked with my barriatric surgeon yet, waiting for some tests to come back. I really think the RNY is more drastic than I want to loose weight. I have Tricare for my insurance and they will not pay for VSG, you have to have it done at a MTF. The cut off age for the MTF in my area to do a VSG is 55 and I am 58. I was wondering if Tricare would pay for VSG if other two surgeries are not an option. Probably not. tabithainbremerton 7 Posted January 10, 2012 My brother and I both have Barrettes esophagus and have been banded. No problems. The best thing in that regard is you probably wont have heartburn afterwards, which can worsen your barrette's. You know if you take Nexium or another Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) you can actually reverse it's effect... as it can be a pre-curser to cancer... He was banded a few years ago, me just 2 weeks ago- neither one of us had any problems, especially r/t that disease. Hope this help! Tabby.
