Weird Story: Sun 1 JAN 2012

So I haven't had a lot of pain for the most part. Surgery went fine. Didn't need anything repaired. I've been following the liquid diet as prescribed. I went to work yesterday from 12pm-6:30pm (I work in retail) and was feeling very nauseated. I didn't taking any medication b4 or during work, due to the fact that it makes me fall asleep and/or makes me drowsy. Toward the end of my shift (around 6pm) I couldn't take the feeling anymore. So I decided to go home. As soon as I get home (which was around 630ish) I take my medication prescribed (Hydrocodone & Promethazine). For rest of the night, I felt all these symptoms that I've never felt before. As I laid in bed, I was shivering. Like that Titanic shivering. So my dad gave me another blanket it (which would had been my third) and turned on the heat as well. Minutes later I got up and began to vomit. Nothing came up. It was just the clear vomit, when nothing is in your stomach (weird, bcuz i had a Protein shake, broth, and juice while I was @ work.) I was vomiting on and off for the next TWO hours. As I was vomiting I was sweating as if I just ran a 5K run. It was very awful. One minute I was at the toilet then going to the sink to wash my face, cuz I was sweating so badly. Also, I was breathing as if I was in labor about to have a baby. Heavy, heavy breathing. I had enough and finally had my father call the doctor. The doctor said I had a lot of nausea and it was due to the fact that I wasn't able to hold down my medicine. The doctor said to eat a popsicle and see if that helps. That didn't help at all. Long story short, I ended up calling 911 and having the paramedics coming over. They basically checked me out and my breathing range when they first got to me was in the mid 40s, around 44-45ish and by the time they were done with me it went back to normal 20-21ish. They recommended my parents go and purchase some Pedialyte (medicine for what they give children/infants) since it had the nutritional needs my stomach needed. The paramedics also said, it was like this was the reaction my stomach had due to the surgery. Almost like if it had a reaction shock, due to "it's new form" if that makes any sense.

I'm excited for my new band and what the new year will be like. I don't want this story to discourage anybody from getting the band, but it did make me think twice on if I fully "THOUGHT" of "EVERYTHING" the band could/can possible come with - long term, short term, post, and pre-op.

Sounds like some kind of viral or bacterial attack. Not the band.

I've had similar similar symptoms from picking up bugs while in foreign countries.

I was thinking the same, sounds as though your body was fighting off an infection. Hopefully it is not something that you picked up in surgery. I would go back to your surgeon and get checked out, you may need a course of antibiotics.

Those are the exact symptoms I have when I get cellulitis and must receive IV antibiotics in the hospital to quell the infection. Whether it's from the surgery -- and when did paramedics add M.D. to their name -- or from an infection, I hope you spoke with your doctor asap.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
