Newbie Here!!!! Trying To Get Back On Track? Advice, Support, Or Suggestions Help!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My name is Monique. I have had weight problems all my life. In January 2008 I had decided to take the journey of becoming banded. August 28, 2008 I was banded. Right after surgery I did great! I went from 292lbs and reached my lowest of 230lbs. With a new found confidence I met my current boyfriend and became content. I slowly started gaining my weight back, not working my “tool”. I had gained all but 15lbs back. Well, recently (8/18/11) I had my son who is the joy of my. During my pregnancy all of the Fluid was removed. Well, with no Fluid in my band my eating got out of control during my 41 week pregnancy. And since I’m currently self-pay I did not have the additional money to go have a fill a few weeks after delivery. Unfortunately, the end result was me gaining all of my weight back. I’m currently at 294lbs and hoping to get back on the right track. I have an appointment with my surgeon on the 9th to have and adjustment and start all over.

I’m at a point where I need guidance, suggestions, support, ideas as to how to get back on track, What to eat?!?!

Thanks in advance to anyone that replies :-)

Its amazing the sacrafices we make with our bodies. I would like to firstly say congratulaions on the new birth. Every day is special with little ones. Draw strength from all the precious moments and know that you can get back down to your previous weightloss and take it to the next level Your goal weight.

Have you ever heard of a Thermomix. I purchased one late last year and became a consultant. check it out on www.thermomix.com or ask me any questions you might have

I really admire you for posting this and for making the committment to start again. That is fantastic~

As for what you should eat, your surgeon (or his nurses) will probably be able to give you written instructions, but why don't you spend the next 8 days/week doing the "pre-op" liquid diet, just as you did back in '08 before your surgery? Then, when you get the adjustment, you will be ready to hit the ground running with a day or two more of liquids, then mushies, then solid food. You can do this - this website is full of supportive people willing to help.

P.S. Congratulations on your son!

Me too. In the same boat. I lost and gained 80 lbs. Back to square one. I didn't have complications w/ my band just some majorly difficult life, job issues. Once all the stress happened, it was followed severe depression and I couldn't cope w/ everything and handle working my band.

But! looking forward to a fresh start beginning now!

HI Jen: I totally understand! This time around I need to find other outlets to deal with life obstacles in a different way besides eating.WE can DO IT!!!!

Thank you Stacie! It's been tough but every time I look at my son, I just think how much I love him and how I want to be here for him as long as I can. I want to be able to have play time with him and not be winded, or even in pain. Fantastic Idea! What I did per-op for 10 days was only have Low-Carb slim fast, broth, Jello, Water and sugar free Popsicle. I will make a trip to the store TODAY and stock up on these items. I need to find a way to avoid temptations and as previously mention to Jen find a way to deal with life obstacles in a different manner. Thank you again for your support! It means a lot and its good to know that there are people who has been though what I'm going through. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. biggrin.png

HI Amanda: Ok cool! I thought about starting a journal to keep track of my day to day eating, feeling and what not. Thank you for the congrats! He's an amazing 5mth old. I love him more than life itself- He's such a blessing! In regards to Thermomix I have never heard of it until now. I just took a look at it and it looks very interesting and a time saver. I will do more reading on it. Thanks for sharing.

Well Ladies- THANK YOU ALL For responding and your support. I will be on here often as I will need all the support, help, suggestions, and advice I can get. I will keep you all posted on how tomorrow goes with my revisit to the liquid diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
