My Band Has Slipped

Recommended Posts

Hi. I was admitted to hospital on Thursday with severe dehydration, and exhaustion after not having kept anything down for nearly a week.

I now know that it is because my bad has slipped.

I have got to see the surgeon this week, and am very worried about what he will do.

Please could people share their stories of similar experience with me.

Thankyou.

My understanding is that they unfill your band completely and see if it settles into place-this could take several weeks. I am not sure if you wentt a Center of Excellence but I believe they now stitch the band in such a way to try to avoid a slip. Lots of people have had slips on this forum-consider it a bump in the road not the end of a journey. Wishing you well!

I have just had the same thing happen. At first my surgeon thought that it was a slight slip (from results of an upper GI), so he took all the Fluid out of the band and put me on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. He repeated the upper GI and did a scope where it showed things had gotten worse, so I had to have laproscopic surgery. He found a hiatal hernia that had caused my band to slip and he repaired both. We think this happened after my Tummy Tuck. I hope yours isn't this bad. Good Luck! By the way I am 5 years post op and have lost 105 pounds and kept it off.

I've been struggling with slipping for nearly 4 months now, and finally went in for revision surgery last week. Just do what your dr recommends and know that you can and will get better. I am! It's discouraging, but it can be overcome.

Hi,

Laura71 is right. I had repair surgery in Oct. The surgeon thought he might have to remove the lapband and replace it in 2 months. But, he was able to repair it instead. I am doing fine. It takes awhile to get back to restriction after the slip, but finally am and maintaining okay. Good luck and Happy New Year to you! Karen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
