4 Days Post Op And Starving!

Recommended Posts

I need some help. I am 4 days out from being banded with plication. I woke up hungry in the hospital. Thought it was probably all that awful gas pushing on my tummy. Well, the gas is mostly gone away, although i still have some pain in my left shoulder and under my left rib. Anyway, i am on 2 weeks of liquids. I eat my Breakfast meal(shake) and i can eat about half, and I feel fine. Then, like thirty minutes later, my stomach is growling and I have hunger pains like I haven't eaten in 4 months! It's awful! AND a little painful. So, then I go and drink some more of my shake that was left over. I get a few bites, then, the hunger goes away, then low and behold, thirty minutes and I am STARVING! I don't wanna be eating all the time! I DID sneak a little Peanut Butter in my shake tonite and it seemed to help. I did the 10 day liquid diet before surgery too. I don't have an appointment for a fill yet, my doc does them usually at 4 weeks. Is this just temporary? Did the band NOT work?

I'm sure your band worked just fine, but you won't have any restriction until

you've had a few fills. The band isn't for sissies. You're going to have to bite the bullet and work like hell. This is like a diet, that you know all about,

only you'll have the band to help you from gaining again. It's a lot of work,

but you have to ask why you began this trip to begin with, and are you

willing to do what it takes to look like you want to. Grit your teeth and

good luck, you can do it.

Are you allowed both broth and thin Protein Shakes at this point? If so have your broth first and then an hour or two later the Protein. So kind of up break up your eating. The band is fine. Took me six months of fills to get restriction.

Liquids go right through the band. They don't really help to sustain us. Like you I woke up hungry from my surgery. The pre-op was horrible, and I was sooooo hoping that the post-op would not be bad because the trauma from surgery would help me...it didn't.

My surgeon said to have as much as I wanted during the liquid post-op phases. If yours said the same, don't feel bad about going back 30 minutes later to finish your shake!

Thanks! Just knowing that I am not alone is what is helping...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
