Just Banded 12/27!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I just had Lap-Band surgery on the 27th. I feel pretty good . . . just a bit sore. I've been keeping lightly active . . . I have 5 kids, so that is inevitable. ; ) I'm doing great so far . . . I'm on a full liquids only diet for 3 weeks. My doctor says it helps with healing . . which is what the first 3 weeks are for. I am excited for 2012! I know it won't always be easy and that I have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me.

Congrats to you. I was banded on the 29th and was discharged lastnight. I'm home, on the couch, trying to enjoy the ringing of the new year. I am still very much sore and still require help getting in and out of the bed. I thought I would be more independent by now but I'm not. Hope tmr is easier. My doctor has me on a 10-14 day full liquid diet and then 10-14 day pureed diet. Did you have to do a pre-surgery liquid diet as well? I did a 7 day.

3 weeks on liquids. OMG> I would die. I am not doing well w the whole post op dieting when i know I can eat anything.. But i hav stayed away from meat and carb drinks.. that is a big plus for me. I have had Soups which do really good for me... Ready for purees for week three. I hate that every surgeon has a different plan.. It makes it harder for us to discuss whats next!

Congrats! Hang in there. When you feel like you are starving...task yourself with reorganizing your closet, go on a small walk, call up an old friend, do SOMETHING. You'll get through it!

I've been researching WLS for 10 years, and the is the first time I heard of a 3-week liquid diet. Certainly, you'll lose weight, but my suggestion is stop if it gets to be too much and move on to the puree stage. Doctors are not God, and personally, I usually make up my own mind, after carefully considering what they recommend. I've run across posts from patients who did the liquid diet for only 1 week. bored.gif

Congrats & best of luck.

I researched the lap band for a year before I went to a seminar. I knew the band was for me. Two family members had the bypass, one has done extremely well. She changed her eating habits and life style, the other didn't and I feel she had ruined her health. The band is a much healthier choice. Happy New Year and Healthy New Life to all.

UPDATE: Just ran across a post of someone who only did liquids for only 48 hours (per doc instructions) and had no problems.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I was banded on the 29th. I just drank a Protein shake and am now feeling very uncomfortable because I drank too much! :( Oh well, lesson learned! I was on a slim fast diet for 2 weeks before my procedure. I drank 2 shakes instead of eating 2 meals. I did it but of course it was hard! I am doing well 2 days post-op. I am still sore. I will be on liquids for the next 2 weeks! Good luck to all of you!

Cori :)

Hi all. I was just banded on 12/29. So far so good - starting to get tired of the liquids. Also having a hard time taking my pills. Otherwise ok - lost 13 pounds, I feel like I cant have another Water or ice pop or jello.. I'll get through it but man it's hard.

My doctor does 3 weeks of full liquids . . . so that also includes cream Soups, etc. Not just broth and Jello. It may seem excessive to some . . . but he has performed thousands of lap-band surgeries and is VERY involved in the after-care of his patients. He gives us his personal email and checks it throughout the day and responds quickly to all questions. He used to recommend a 2 week full liquid diet (post-op), but has switched to 3 weeks because people have fewer problems and hello! the stomach is still trying to heal after being messed with during surgery. So I am going to follow his plan . . because this is my 1st lap-band and he has the combined experience of thousands. :) It is actually good - not just for healing, but also to slow down and learn about true hunger vs emotional hunger. Not a bad thing since I know we all didn't get chubby from eating only when we were truly hungry. Am I right?? Anyway . . I am really excited for this year. I know I just started and it won't always be easy . . but I have a feeling the end result will be awesome and totally worth it!

Totally agree. Dr Simpson did mine on the 29th and I can't imagine trying to consume anything besides liquids at this point. He is great on responding to emails too.

Was just banded Dec 30th. Supposed to be on 2 weeks of full liquids. Its a good learning curve in not over filling my belly - luckily when I do the Fluid emptys in minutes...if I did that with solids I can't imagine how unbareble that would be!eek.gif

I was also banded on the 27th. Just got back to work today (I had a hernia repair as well). I am right there with ya on the 3-week liquid diet....but it hasn't been all that hard for me so far since I am not hungry at all (beats the starvation liquid diet pre-op)...LOL... Anyway... Happy New Year to Us!!!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
