Personal Introduction

Recommended Posts

Ive never belonged to an online group/blog/forum etc. After receiving my surgery (Dec 19th 2011) I wanted the chance to discuss my progress, problems and goals with others that would understand what I was going through.

I am 28 yrs old and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, asthma and high triglycerides. I work 2 jobs and have 5 children under 13 (2 biological 3 step children). I found it extremely hard to loose the excess weight. I finally decided that I needed help beyond what I could do myself.

My goal was and is mainly to be healthy. I want to be able to play with my children and not be out of breath within the first few moments. I also want to be around to watch them all graduate college and to eventually play with my own grandchildren (in MANY MANY YEARS AWAY).

Hello and Happy New Year. You've picked a good surgeon and good facility so you should have had an easy time of it.

I assume you've gone through a series of classes and know what to expect and what to do to make your trip a little

easier. I was banded in early Sept. and am in a bit of a stall right now because of the holidays. I'll get serious the

day after tomorrow, It was time for a break, anyway. How are you doing with Christmas and all? I was going to tough

it out, but with all our kids and grandkids here, I gave in. I didn't overdo it, but still enjoyed myself and everyone else.

I hope it all goes well for you, enjoy your kids while you can, one day you'll look up and they'll all be grown and gone,

While I probably couldn't keep up with them, now, I do miss them when they go. I hope you have a pleasant new year,

and good luck with your weight loss. Come back and see us.

Ive been doing really well actually. I still had the pleasure of cooking a big Christmas dinner, I just didn't eat any of it. :) Instead I had strained cream of broccoli Soup. The Holidays are not really bothering me that much. The biggest issue I seem to have is not wating as often as I should. I forget to eat because I get busy doing something. But I will get used to it. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
