Plans For New Year's Eve

Hello all and Happy 2012! I woke up kind of giddy this morning just thinking my surgery is RIGHT around the corner. So with New year's Eve tonight, what are everyone's plans for "dodging" temptation and food. I'm not a big drinker, a glass of wine maybe every six months here or there, so I'm not so worried about that. I know the party we are going to this evening will have a ton of food. Although I've been very "out of the fat closet" to friends, family and co-workers, I'm not wanting to shout it out to my husband's friends. I plan on bringing my water bottle and will re-fill as much as possible to keep full on that. With that said though, I'm not going to beat myself up if I eat a little cheese and crackers.

Well, I went to church last night and today. I had to cook the traditional meal for my fiance, which was collard greens and black-eyed peas, and I baked chicken breasts. Needless to say, I ate half a chicken breast, and the two vegetables. I treated my self with the peas, because my pre op diet said NO Beans. Well cheating is costing me because I have some serious gas now. Anywho, i will be back on track with my 2 Protein Shakes and lean/green meal tomorrow. My EDG is Wednesday and I am a little nervous. I was just telling my fiance that this time next weekend, I will probably be in knots for my surgery next Monday morning (9th)!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
