shap 24 Posted December 30, 2011 Hello all I just got my surgery date for Jan. 30th. and now i'm freaking out. Even though I researched this procedure for years prior to this point. Even though I did all the pre-op testing I guess I never thought I would get an actual surgery date or one that is so close. But I guess if I don't do it now I never will. The psychologist at the surgeons office said not to do a food bucket list because the band shouldn't stop you from eating the things you want you can just have them in smaller quantities but I hear such horror stories of people no longer eating things like steak or chicken or even eggs and I'm freaking out thinking i need to do a food bucket I haven't yet but i so want to. Either way, it is so worth it to no longer be morbidly obese. *******oops! just posted in the men's room....sorry guys, I sometimes stumble into the mens room ..... can't help myself. screeden 21 Posted December 30, 2011 i completely understand. i totally freaked out the day i got my surgery date cause it became real to me. i was a mess! but i talked to my 2 good friends who had it done and have had great success and they talked me off the ledge. I am down 46 lbs and 4 dress sizes since April and i couldn't be happier. yes i wish it was more lost, but i know it will happen. the holidays have derailed me but i am getting back on track January 1st. Some people can eat like they did before, just smaller quantities. others can't eat certain foods. everyone is different. i can eat chicken, eggs, tortillas and whole wheat bread, even popcorn. as long as i chew my food well and take small bites, i am good. just talk to other's about the band, the good and the bad, there is that with every single diet and surgery. you will be fine. just breathe and take it one day at a time. NoMoBand 278 Posted December 30, 2011 I started out not being able to eat many things, but, as time went by I introduced those foods in small portions and as of now there is nothing I cannot eat. readytogoforit 172 Posted December 30, 2011 the trick is try small amts of anything new. you will be on liquids for 2- 3 weeks after surgery so don't worry now. I remember how good everything I ate tasted! it was such a small amt. but sooo good. I stay away from bread & Pasta, too many carbs. popcorn's not good either. Luckily we are all different...you will see what works for you! I don't enjoy beef much, it is sad I haven't tried steak but I know I'll have to chew forever! I travel a lot for business and I can tell you the differences between the Morton's in New York, vs the Morton's in Atlanta, vs. the Morton's in Florida, etc, etc. Last night we had about 12 people over for Christmas. I cooked a BEAUTIFUL Rib Roast, along with mashed potatoes, and so on. I can't eat meat anymore. One bite of the Prime Rib and I was finished with it no matter how much I chewed and how small the swallow was. But you know what? Because of the band, I am not that interested in food anymore. I can't explain it, but I do know it is a characteristic of being in the green zone. I really don't miss it all that much. Plus, you will loose enough weight, you will feel so good and confident about yourself that you will start thinking like a thin person does. rosstheboss 21 Posted December 30, 2011 Hi and Congratulation: I have been banded now 2 1/2 years and YES You will eat again and virtually everything! Do not rush it once you are banded, take time and listen to what the Dr and Nutritionist tell you. Key once you get the band is to keep your Protein up. So clear Protein drinks etc. Do not worry about not eating steak etc. I eat Steak, popcorn etc. Not to say I eat this everyday and it takes time to work you way back to eating a steak, and you will not be eating a huge steak and you will need to chew more. The biggest change is that I am now the last person to finish eating when I go out! Rather that the first. I was recently at a business dinner and the Steak was melt in your mouth tender, and after a bit I realized I was the only one still eating and enjoying this fabulous meal. So you don't need a bucket list of foods, and you may find that some of them are things you will no longer even want. I eat well and healthy. bobrocky 8 Posted December 31, 2011 After 4 months I can still eat everything. Only a saltine cracker has given me problems so far. Some things go down slowly, but I can eat them. I'm fine with meats, tamales, eggs, veggies etc. I can eat 100% whole wheat bread. We are all different. Just take it slowly. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
RbL7FB 4 Posted January 3, 2012 I'm still a newbie... banded Nov 9. Only 1 fill thus far and I can tell I am far from the green zone. I have eaten most everything that I used to, smaller protions and really have to chew the food. I have next fill scheduled for next week, hoping to see a greater improvement. MauiJax 5 Posted January 18, 2012 I LOVE food! But my relationship to food has changed. Yes their will be foods you can't eat anymore. It may even feel unfair, but then one day you will do something and realize, "Holly ****! I can do that now!" For me it was when I was walking to a bus stop and had to run to catch the bus. I realized I Could! I wasn't out of breath, my ankles did not hurt, and no one was watching the fat guy trying to catch the bus. I still love food and sometimes I really miss bread. But I refuse to ever be the fat guy running for the bus again. Also, if you want to make a bucket list, make it for all the new places and positions your going to have sex once you lose the weight. MWoods1964 24 Posted April 3, 2012 I think it is interesting. I never use to think about food until I started learning about the band and I realized how much my life revolves around food. I am still per-op and working through all the insurance fun stuff. The more I read the more I realized I was on my Yelp app everyday looking for a new food place and weekends were based around new Breakfast places and such. I have really started to rein that back in. Regardless of the surgery I can see that isn't healthy. I am a type 2 diabetic and my blood sugars are well controlled but I take a lot of insulin and as a result I have gained a lot of weight. I am looking forward to the band as a tool to further help me gain control over my life and health. I love new foods and I still plan on being adventurous, just in smaller portions.
