Question: Was I too hard on the hubby?

Recommended Posts

:) OKAY...Question....

My husband has been somewhat supportive through this whole pre-op diet but he just doesn't get it sometimes....Like last night....

He walked in last night and said "Gosh, I thought you would have a big Valentines dinner ready for us"! I was already in a horrible mood because I was starving for something cooked. I snapped back..."Screw YOu"...and he said "oh' my gosh get a sense of humor, will ya?"

I was soooo mad, and still am if ya can't tell...he always says things like that. Like so I thought we'd go to Stoney River and get a filet and some carmelized mashed potatoes" oh I wanted to chop his head off. He thinks he's being funny!

Am I over reacting? :Banane40: :angry

I think you need to sit with him and explain that it's hard enough and as much as he thinks he's joking...it's not easy for you and you need his support at this time.

I don't think you were too harsh.

I don't cook for hubby at all. Working 50 hour weeks and taking care of a baby is enough. I can be happy with a couple of bites for supper so he can fend for himself.

If I cook a big meal, I will try and eat it! :)

I don't think you were to hard at all. My hubby does something similar except its not as nice, instead of joking he just outright complains. :)

When I switched to brown rice instead of white it was bitch bitch bitch. And when I cook him one steak instead of two (he could stand to loose a few lbs himself) he complains he's still hungry. And when I just don't feel like cooking because I'm not hungry, he won't fix himself any thing, he just goes around the house pouting until I go in the kitchen and cook something. (which I end up eating any way):faint:

He's a big freakin baby, and I can't wait to see what happens after I get banded and I'm on liquids for 2 weeks. He really needs to learn to cook for himself.:cry

My husband burst my bubble Monday. We were talking about the surgery and when I told him I had to be on a two week preop diet. He blurted "Oh, you won't be able to do that!" I informed him that I indeed would do it and I am psyched about it. I know it won't be easy, but if ya'll can do it, the SO CAN I! He shut up.

I almost never cook, if I do, my DH is so damn glad he doesn't complain at all, especially since I got the band. He has a buddy who'se wife doesn't cook either, so the two of them hit all the local restaurants. He'll even call and ask if i want anything, I just order a child portion of where ever he is. I guess he finally got the message after 37 years, LMAO.

Well men don't always make smart choices (like teasing wives when dieting). I threw a chicken breast at my husband a week after I had the lapband. LOL He brought home KFC and ate it right in front of me and then he told me how good it was. When I got upset because I miss food he made fun of me so I threw a chicken breast at his head. Not my most mature moment but it felt great.

No, you weren't too harsh. I would be really upset too.

I am day 5 into my 10 day pre-op liquid diet and I have just decided that I am extremely lucky. My DH is drinking the liquids with me for dinner so I won't feel alone. He said it's great b/c it helps me and helps him lose a few pounds too.

Personally, I think there is a time for jokes and trying to lose weight before or after having surgery is not one of them.

Nessa, You are a riot!!! That sounds like something I would have done!!

When my husband I were living together he complained about my weight but then would ask me to go make Cookies or go get him a bowl of ice cream. He is over 6' and very fit, Lean muscular guy and couldn't understand why i got fat!!! I wish I ahd thought of throwing the icecram at him!! :)

LOL I would have thrown the whole bucket, and the mashed potatoes at him!! What an ass thing to do! Screw maturity....That was the right thing to do!

You weren't too harsh. There are lots of people who don't know how to be supportive. It just seems to hurt more when it's our spouse. I was banded Nov 7th. My DH isn't getting snippy anymore. I started losing weight and feeling better about myself. Wasn't long ago I was hit on. I said that's at only 30 pounds down - just wait til I get lose another 60!! I think it scared him just a little. YEAH!!!

Actually I couldnt care less if my hubby at KFC in front of me, but I did take exception to what he did the other night, lol

He poured me a glass of wine after we'd had a hard day in the garden, a big one. I hadnt had a drink for quite a while and I got completely sloshed on one glass of wine, I was slurring and giggling a the end and had to go for a little lie down. He woke me up two hours later at 7.30 pm complaining that he and the kids were hungry.

Excuse me? Who broke his arms and legs. I was drunk dammit, and enjoying my little snooze. He could have made Soup and toasted sandwiches, surely?

Sounds like he's a bit of a smartass with the common sense of a soap battleship to me.

It's possible you have a long history of 'hard' teasing towards each other and thats where thats coming from. You can answer that one :)

Communication is the key and talking things out might help. That sense of humor might have been one of the key reasons you picked him in the first place.

Think about it, talk to him.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
