MILK OF MAGNESIUM WORKED FOR ME

I tried stool softners with no luck and then took a laxative, that worked. After that, for the first few weeks, whenever I felt myself "backing up" I would take 1 stool softner right away and it helped. I've been banded for 6 months now and no longer have any issues with it. It's only temporary!!

I had surgery the day after you and my doctor recommended taking Milk of Magnesia if I hadn't had a BM after 3 days. I ended up taking it, but only took it the one time. Things are not back to normal in that department, but it's slowy getting better. Good luck!

milk of magnesia, or magnesia liquid. They both are helpful, and mild enough. Good luck! Karen

  • WATER... you are probably slightly dehydrated.... once you increase Water, add additional Fiber to your diet.

After that first Constipation issue is resolved with some sort of laxitive, you may find it helpful to take some sort of fiber daily. Vitafusion brand fiber gummies (Target) saved me! They are very tasty and melt in your mouth soft.

I mentioned this to my PCP. She prescribed a powder disolved in Water. It does not hurt the belly, but it does get the job done.

Very Gentle.

Ask your Dr....

I wouldn't worry too much. I'm guessing you've been on a liquid diet so in all honesty...what could be in there!? Just make sure you're sipping lots of Water so you stay hydrated. Also, surgery slows your whole system down and the affects of anestesia take a while to get out of your system.

i was banded in October, still having problems being regular. I take benefiber powder every day. But every few days I also need to take milk of magnesia. I believe part of the problem is the majority of my diet is Protein and very little carbs and fats. I really hope my insides straighten out...Good luck.

Also, I drink plenty of Water and its still not enough to keep things moving.

Prune juice. It's natural, and it works great. But I'm no expert -- I'm still pre op.

I had the band on 12/20 and have been irregular, I went to my post op on 1/4 and was advised to take 2 Senokot tablets daily until regular again. Also keep a bottle of Milk of Magnesia. Good luck :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
